Hello everyone. Need advice. I have an Intel Q6700 processor in my computer now. I need to upgrade due to poor fps in Flight Sim X. How do I compare an Q processor against an i3 / i5 processor. Or am I correct in thinking all i3 & i5 processors are faster?

Are you sure your CPU is the bottleneck? Whats your graphics? Tried overclocking it? They can reach 3.0ghz fine. Don't spend alot of money on a new board, ram and cpu when you can spend far less on a better gpu

Before you do any upgrading, you should overclock.

I have a xfx 9800 gpu. Flight sim forums claim it's all the cpu and not the graphics card. could the 9800 be too light?

9800GT is a bit old, any mid-high range modern card would give you a great boost in performance. If you overclock the Q6700 you will see performance increases as well.

iirc Flight sim is very highly demanding on the CPU.

In the past; I've seen Intel i7-980x / 970x and other extreme setups advertised for better performance.

I would say any recent i3/i5/i7 setup will boost considerable gains. Add together a mid end GPU and you'll be good for a bit.
