I actually did. After testing the RC, I do like the OS. It is not that different from Vista, but it does use a good deal less memory. I knew that eventually I'd buy it, so I thought, hell might as well save $50-60.

Yes, pre-ordered Pro edition. Have RC7 64bit (dual boot with XP Pro), no issues excepting Adobe reader and it don't play nice. All drivers, good, all systems, check, we have lift-off.

Got 2 computers. Desktop is still running XP. Laptop came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 when the first public beta came out. Vastly improved the usability & stability of the lappy.

Neither I nor my wife liked Vista. We both really like 7; however, some of our software doesn't like 7. So, we sprang for two copies of 7 Pro for the sake of XP mode.

THATS RIG[citation][nom]Soldier37[/nom]I will want direct x 11 that comes with it to play the games. Upgrading to a Ati 5800 series card by then as well so I can play the few games that will support it. Really the only reason for me to get it and no I didn't preorder.[/citation]

Totally forgot about DX11. Looks like I HAVE to buy Widnows 7.

Fuck you M$

I didn't preorder, but that doesn't mean I'm not planning on buying it. I'll just ask my sister to pick it up from her college on the cheap.

Wake up, we're paying for Vista SP3. MS should give every Vista owner at least 80% discount if not all 100%. After thinking through, I feel like ripped off by MS once again!

No way. I bought Vista Ultimate when it first came out and paid a lot of money to get all those nifty "Extras" that were promised. Fool me once...

some of you are saying that you have to have Win7 inorder to get DX11, that's not the case. I fully realize that was the setup with DX10, you had to get Vista, but that's not the case with DX11.

Not in my life ! M$ lost me quite a while ago, actually even before Vista, when XP was already growing old in the tooth in 2006.
I'm now a happy Linux user (Arch for my Netbook and Ubuntu on the other 7 machines (Laptops, Desktops and Server) we have in the family of 4).
Windows is relegated to were it belongs : a WinXP Virtualbox image stored on the NAS. This way anyone can boot it up whenever needed ...... which was the last time in February .... go figure.
Sure, I tried the Win7 RC and found it to be better crap than anything seen from M$. But it's still Windows and compared to a real Posix OS such as MacOSX, Linux or any of the BSD flavors : IT'S STILL CRAP!

Yep. I may not install it until SP1 is out, but since I'll be playing with it eventually, why not save the money?

BTW, my main machine is now a quad boot Win2K / WinXP / DOS / Win2k-for-backups. Each environment has its uses.

I am just going to buy a Technet subscription when the Release Canditate version of Ultimate Windows 7 runs out. I successfully upgraded a Vista Ultimate installation. So instead of $99, I can pay $250 and get down-loadable untimed versions of all MS products for $250 for own evaluation.

Windows 7 kicks Vista's but. But the ultimate version is not worth the extra $$$

Absolutely not. They only offered the deals for the upgrade version, which means I would have to install Vista, then install the upgrade every time I do a full wipe & reinstall on my computer.

The discount isn't worth putting up with all of that.

I wish I would have, but I was doing something that made it impossible to get it. I got home 3 days after the discount was over and missed out. I am so mad about it, but I think Windows 7 is definitely worth the price. So I guess I'll probably buy a license anyway.

Thought the closing day was in August and went to order now but was shocked that it doubled in price so am not bothered to order
