anything over $200 just seems unreasonable. i could buy a netbook and an ipod touch for less than the cheapest ipad. Heck, i could buy those 2 and a kindle for less than the 64GB one.

well not to bash but i would say id rather pay about 300 for the base and 500 for the 64gb .. but thats just me i know theres a lot of development costs in that thing.. they gotta make money or else theres no reason to be innovative.. and i personally gotta hand it to them because if it was not for apple being so innovative a lot of the touch phones and other things would not be around today. competition drives innovation .. but it all comes at a cost .. thats part of whats wrong with america .. these days people dont want to pay much for goods and companies out source a lot of manufacturing services over seas taking jobs from us .. but its also greed as well

In my understanding, apple is going for a significant market in aftermarket lock-in, meaning that even if you got the ipad for cheap, it would still be an expensive product to own because you would have to pay for just about anything worth doing with it. The current prices are absolutely ridiculous. The shear amount of raw computer power that can be had for the same price as even a low end ipad is just staggering, and you don't have to sacrifice USB (or anything else that makes computers great tools). And apple likes to make things unupgradable...so you have to get a whole new one when the time comes that it's too old to be useful. If you had spent the same money on a decent desktop, you would likely need to spend much less to upgrade a few key pieces, and not need to buy a whole new one.

I just handed on the IPAD today, there were nothing impressive except the ereader function. But I think the ereader just looks cool, it's not practical. I have a PC and laptop. I'll buy a ereader instead of the IPAD.

let's be realistic guys. $199 can only garner you an 8GB iPod Touch. $299(8GB) would be fair for a relative new product and "concept". I'm just waiting for the 3G module to be standard -- I don't want to be exploited into paying much more than I would expect. perhaps in the next revision

I touched an iPad today. Wow!

You folks need to crawl out of your shells and realize that there are Battlestars and X-Wing fighters. PCs of all flavors are badly flawed, lumbering Battlestars. The iPad is a brilliantly crafted agile X-Wing fighter.

It's for people who need to get their work and fun done in simple and efficient ways.

I love my iPhone. I use it for everything from email to managing my Windows servers to remoting my PCs and Mac.

My iPhone has not died on me in three years. I've gone through 3 PCs and 2 notebooks in that time.

I ordered an iPad with 3G and 64 GB and can't wait for it to show up.

I wouldnt buy one even if they were only $50-100! Its almost useless, I saw a list on cnet called "top 5 reasons not to buy an iPad" and he made some valid points: no multi-tasking, no camera, and its too large to comfortably carry anywhere. I'll stick with my Motorola Droid, thank you, since it does more than the iPad and I can easily carry it around, but it does cost me about $100 a month....

wow sounds like stereotypical techie talk. It is a device, well designed good for folks who cant work a laptop well, my dad,mom couple of my cousins. I like computers but I still would like one of these. they are cool, and the best apps havent come out yet. just wait you will all sound bitter because a device with so much less ram and gighz than ur comp is more useful to the common human than ur midtower.

Just one more useless status toy to throw in my pile of rotting electronics. If this thing could run mathmatica, maple, and .mkv editing apps, I might spend up to a $1000.
No storage, yesteryear CPU, just all marketing MBA wizardry. No substance here.

$349 for an 16GB model; $399 for 32GB; $499 for 64GB.

That's just how much I think it is worth. Add a front-facing video camera and 3G connectivity, and then maybe it be worth another $100.

Apple will be making more than enough money from the Apps store and iPad accessories; it doesn't really need to charge a premium for the device too. People are just suckers, and Apple knows this.

I however would not buy an iPad unless it cost roughly $200 - I already have an iPhone and a netbook; I just don't have money to waste. Maybe I'll buy one when the device becomes more refined in a year or so.

Wow! Irrefutable anecdotal evidence! Not to mention a completely irrelevant analogy.. you've convinced me! /sarcasm

You and anyone else are only fooling yourselves if you think the iPad is worth it's base price. Who wants to pay more for less?
