[citation][nom]jalek[/nom]Some marketer noticed that people went shopping on Friday after Thanksgiving, since almost everyone has that day off. They proclaimed it the first day for Christmas shopping and the busiest buying day of the year, and another marketing day was born. I blame Mervynns and companies of that era for running huge tv ad campaigns about being open at 5AM for making it some sort of instant tradition.[/citation]
No. It's because today is the largest shipping day on the calendar and if they don't move merchandise, they will have to liquidate it practically to continue selling stuff for christmas (basically their storage is about to be at maximum capacity, so they have to sell now)
