Abit. Barely gone, but I'm still not looking forward to choosing another motherboard manufacturer when I build my next system.

IronRyan21 :
Packard Bell! My first PC, sadly they aren't around anymore.

WHAT?!?!?!
I actually work as a PackardBell technician in Argentina.in one of their technical services (also LG, HP, DLINK, ACER, TOSHIBA, and so on...)
And i have two notebooks. packardBell S18P (mini notebook really cool) and a EOLITE (ECS) crappy notebook...

And as for old dead companies... i loved my voodoo 3 with 16Mb. it rocked my world. i changed it for a TNT2 and 3 days later i bought a geforce 2 ultra.
I really miss 3dfx.... it was inspirational to see them fighting the growing Nvidia...

And actually my second company still exists, but i dont know what it does now. but i once had a cyrix CPU (66Mhz of Pure Power) and i remember how good was to have several CPU companies out there...

MicroProse(F-19 was really good), Jane's Combat Simulations(Fleet Command, Longbow, WWII Fighter etc.), STB Systems Inc. (I Still have my Velocity 4400)

[citation][nom]Zoonie[/nom]Also, Sega for making consoles and PowerVR for making consumer products.. I guess we could call them "semi-dead" hehe.[/citation]

I prefer the term, "Undead". 😉

I always thought Diamond was a great company that got swallowed in the great graphics war of 1999 (lol no idea the time line). The company I miss the most though is Infocom. Bring back ZORK!!!!

[citation][nom]Herbert_HA[/nom]Damned, I miss adventure games!! Ok, I know it's not a company, but those games were awesome and i miss them! I remember spending days playing Monkey Island, Indiana Jone, Full Throttle, Heart of China, Dig...wtf happened to Lucas Arts, Sierra and all those other companies????[/citation]
[citation][nom]Aerobernardo[/nom]Its not a company, but I do miss Full Throttle. Lucas Arts never made a remake...[/citation]

Lucas Arts is still around but they are exclusively servicing (aka putting out crappy market tie-ins) George Lucas's other franchises. Double-Fine and Tell-Tale are run by people involved with the early fantasy games. Tell-Tale has been putting out pretty decent serials of the Sam and Max franchise and Brutal Legend by Double-Fine might be a spiritual successor to Full Throttle. If you haven't played Psychonauts (Double-Fine) or Beyond Good and Evil (by Ubisoft of all people) you really should. Somebody else should pick up the Monkey Island license.

Sierra became a soulless publishing company after it's purchase by big conglomerate Vivendi and now sports the long previously dead Activision brand. (Long suffering Interplay is going under soon, too.)

I kinda miss Origin, I still think that Wing Commander: Privateer was the most fun I've ever had on the PC. All the other "spiritual" successors I've played either sucked (Priveteer II) or had the fun drained out of them (Freelancer & the X series).

quantum, for sure. i would buy one of their drives today.

i remember spider graphics. never got one of their cards but i enjoyed the cool adds they has in the magazines.

i remember thumbing through that bible called computer shopper, those were the days.

@HotRoderX - got your point, but Gainward is still alive..
@Herbert_HA - adventure games are alive and well as well, it's just that they don't get much coverage. Actually, they don't get covered at all. But last week I was looking for them, and found ~20-30 pretty promising titles from 2007-2008-2009 (if you can believe Gamespot reviews and peoples votes)
@royalcrown - Labtec is also alive as much as I know. They still sell it here in Europe.. Cheap Logitech brand, but nice enough.
@Packard Bell - there are enough replies to this one 😀 so I'll keep silent 😉
@MicroProse - yeah, I miss them.. though their brand is still kinda alive.. though I don't remember seeing it on anything new for a long long while :/
@goonting - US Robotics is also alive, it's just that we don't use 56k modems anymore 😀

I can't really say I miss any companies really, as others took their place and are doing a real good job..
But I "miss" seeing Abit MBOs, IBM PCs and hard drives, Quantum was legend as well, Cyrix was nice (overclocked easily, LOL! 😀 ) and many more..
But 3dfx's market is now well served by ATi&nVidia, Gigabyte jumped in nicely with really good boards last few years while ASUS really took care of the OC market (together with others like DFI), I can't say that WD hasn't got far from their beginings so they rightfully deserve a place in my PCs instead of IBM and Quantum, and so on and so on..

Though they do bring good memories when mentioned, and a bit of sadness as well..

Amiga definitely amiga.
Sierra was mentioned I do leve them but they are still around Sierra Entartainmet.
But I love amiga and games that were available them. 3 years bac I got Another World (or out of this world) game that was made for XP on the anniversary.
But there are a lot more titles that lived on Amiga (and others) back then that could be made again for new hardware. Where are all the game makers of the old to renew there products.

I absolutely hated Packard Bell (USA). Horrible quality and support. The European side seems to have been a lot better. I missed 3dfx at first since it meant Nvidia had a near monopoly in the graphics card market but less so since ATI jumped into 3D. I missed Full Throttle also but I just got done playing it using ScummVM. Too bad there wasn't a sequel. Some of my favorite old games are still available even if the companies are gone. Castle of the Winds is available for free from the developer. It had a much better inventory system than Diablo ever did.

I really miss the sega consoles since back in the day "we" had sega while the bigger less cool but more populair croud had nintendo entertainment systems and super nintendo's.

Second place would be shared between several structures or platforms if you like, give me RISC over x86 any day and the lack of choice (on the consumer end) between sever structures or platforms is in my humble opinion one of the biggest innovation killers.

To complete my list i think terratec should be on it for making incredible audio devices (mostly my terratec soundcard) some how they just dont reach the lvl of quality i was used to get from them.

And last but not least the point and click adventures like the legends of kyrandia and such they ruled and i still dont get why every game has to be buffed up in stead of fun.

Geoworks. Their Ensemble OS/Productivity Suite was true, fast multitasking on an 8088. Too bad they got caught in the Redmond buzz-saw. If Windows 3.0 had been delayed a year or so, Geoworks might have had a chance (esp. if they had opened up to developers). Timing is everything, I guess.
