I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 router. Trying to play a lagless game with 2 pcs, one wired to router, the other is wireless. Anyway, the ping is good, but every ~3 minutes there's a spike in lag for the person conected wirelessly, and that person can't move for ~5 seconds. What is it with the BEFW11S4 that's causing this to happen, and how can it be fixed?

Thanks

Hence why I always go wire'more' and every real LAN function you can attend is wired. Noping kicks arse...but it sure sux if due to microwave influence or sunspots...your LAN game can lag. In fact, that would suck eh? Think about it....sunspots could take your router down. That would blow chunks. I'd go back to a wired LAN...but that's just me.

Wireless can't pull the data that wired systems can. 802.11b wireless pulls 10mbit? Your wired system can pull a full 100mbit? You will lag with wireless based on it having to transmit and your wireless is going to be a bottleneck. Thats the main reason wires are using for lan parties, etc. Wireless can't do what the wires can. Wire your wireless system and you probably won't have a problem. 802.11g might help out with that pulling 54mbit. You might not see any lag, but my guess is that you'll still experience some lag. You can't go wrong with wires.

The problem was pinpointed by kwebb, it was the Wireless Zero Configuration service. When disabled, there was no lag.
