Question about GRUB

I installed Ubuntu after a failed attempt at Mint. I installed Ubuntu on my SSD, so I assumed that the Grub would be installed on my SSD. I recently found out that I had to set my HDD to boot before my SSD or else I wouldn't be able to get to GRUB. I am confused, did I install the GRUB on my HDD or SSD, or did I screw up?

Can I have my GRUB on another drive/partition without any problems? If so, I might leave it on my HDD because Windows is on my SSD and I feel like having the option to skip the GRUB and go straight to Windows.

Absolutely.
