Question... will a PC power up without a harddrive installed?

Hi. I sold an old PC on ebay a few days ago. I did not include a hard drive with it. The guy who bought it says it won't power ON without the hard drive installed. He wanted to check to see if the fans would light up and start before he unpacked the new hard drive he bought for it. I guess he can't return it if it is open.

So my question is should the power supply power up and the case fans light up and run if the PC does not have a hard drive installed?

Yes,,but only as far as the bios..After all no OS no boot,,EH ??.

As long as there is nothing wrong with the core components, ram, psu, cpu, cpu heatsink n fan, motherboard. The comp should power on, with the fans spinning up, add a graphics card or use onboard video, and he should see the bios post screen, add a keyboard, and the bios post will complete. Now it should show a black screen with an error saying that no hard drive is installed.

So, in short, yes as long as everything else is in working order and connected properly, his comp (the one you sold him), should startup with the fans spinning up.
