hi guys i don’t have the best knowledge when it comes to motherboards so I just needed some questions answered. I recently bricked my motherboard unfortunately.. and CMOS reset and all the solutions weren’t working. So Im going to be switching mobos very soon from an ASUS PRIME A320M-K to a MSI B450M PRO VDH MAX.

My first question is, I will be installing a RYZEN 5 4500 so will I need to update the bios for the b450M or can I just install it out the box? I do have a previous CPU I could use if I do need to update the bios but it would be way better if I could just install it right out the box without needing to update the bios.

My second question is will I run into any problems with having to reinstall windows or anything like that and if theres any solutions for it.

My final question is will my data be fine once I switch mobos. Im using a 2TB HDD Currently.

please answer if you can as I am planning to order my b450m mobo either tomorrow or Thursday. And also please mention if there is anything else I should consider. Thank you very much!!

That motherboard is compatible with BIOS 7A38vBE.zip according to the support and compatibility site here:

You should check to see what BIOS is on the motherboard you are considering swapping to. If you have a 'lesser' CPU it could be advantageous in regard to updating the BIOS. The way you worded indicated that the 4500 will be an upgrade.

edit- It would be best to consider a fresh install. If you haven't backed up information and also been sure your OS is tied to an MS account, it may well boot long enough to work that out. Keep in mind that it may well boot up and seem fine, but almost always in situations with completely different hardware a level of unexpected or explained bugs may present.
