Quick Mobo question

That means the only chip it will run at 400mhz is a Northwood "A". In other words, it will run any Northwood you stick in it, be it A-400, B-533, or C-800!

Abit IS7 - 2.8C @ 3.4 - Mushkin PC4000 (2 X 512) - Sapphire 9800Pro - TT 420 watt Pure Power
Samsung 120gb ATA-100 - Maxtor 40gb ATA - 100
Sony DRU-510A - THAT'S MORE LIKE IT!

There are 2 different CPU cores to use 400 bus, Northwood and Williamette. The extremely old Williamette required a core voltage range that would preclude the same board supporting both Willies and Prescotts. So the IS7 is designed to support the Northwood and Prescott, not the Willy. And that means the only 400 bus cores is supports are Northwood.

At 533 and 800 bus, the board supports Northwoods and Prescotts.

Thanks to both of you.
Frys only had a couple returned of that motherboard,so I got a exchange for a Maxtor 120gb HD.
I'll buy the mobo at a diffrent store.(or if they dont have it,I'll buy it from newegg 😉 )

I wonder what happened to Frys...they used to be such a good place to buy stuff, but now everything is marked up and half the time it doesn't work right,if at all. 🙁

stick with new egg, I went by frys when shopping for my next computer and NOTHING was cheaper, except possibly the quality 😉
