Can someone tell me the approximate wattage consumption of a P IV 3.06? Also, will someone recommend how powerful a PSU should be used for this setup:

PIV 3.06
1x 512MB CL2 or CL2.5 (unsure) DDR400
Gigabyte 8PENXP MoBo
nVidia MX 440 GPU
5x 4-LED fans
Dual-Cathode
CDR/RW (speed unsure)
DVD/CDROM
Floppy Drive
2x 40GB IDE/ATA HDDs in RAID 0-1
1x 9GB SCSI HDD

Thanks in advance.

400 watt fortron...

450 watter from another good brand...such as antec and enermax...

I would say 70-80w for MAX power consumtion...seeing as the cpu has an about 60watt max thermal output...

Woops...you caught my mistake...i was guessing and i shouldn't have...hence the "i would say..."

anyhow...good thing ya caught it...so it probably uses 100 watts under max load...60watts at idle...

100W just for the CPU, that's quite a bit of power.

Anywho, thank you all for your responses, the truth is that a friend is building a new computer and I am helping them, and the person buying a lot of the parts got "advice" from a person who seems to think they needed 100W ALONE, 300 MAX, which I knew was utterly ridiculous (also apparently "the only thing that matters is the number after PC [when buying RAM]" 🙂 ), but they would not believe me alone so I thought I would get some second opinions from experienced people, before they ended up wasting their money. Thank you all for your responses.

@HardwareBoss: Yes, I have that drive (rebadged BusLink, LTR52246S), it's a steal at 80. As I stated above though, I'm just the advisor, not the purchaser. 🙂
