Quiet AMD Socket 939 Cooler

Hey All,

Currently, I'm using the stock cooler that came with my AMD Athlon 64 3200+, socket 939. This however, is rather noisy, and with a new graphics card on the way, the thought of more noise (GPU's fan) seems unbareable.

So, because I this, I'd like to change my CPU heatsink to one that is more quiet. I'm not too bothered about performance, it should perform at least as well as the stock cooler, but I'd like the cooler to be far quieter - as much as possible, but without using any kind of water cooling or anything like that.

I have one more specification though, I've read about some coolers which require you to remove the motherboard and unscrew/screw things out/in, and I don't really fancy doing this. A simple installation would be nice, much like the stock cooler.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated - thanks!

Me stock cooler is whisper quiet. I can't imagine your 70mm AMD HSF causes a racket. But if it is, just replace the fan with any low db 70mm fan you can find. 939s run fairly cool, so an all aluminum HSF will do just fine if yu can't find a separate 70mm fan you like.

If you are an overclocker, then I will assist you no further. Good Luck.

There's one on my table right now awaiting a Conroe to mount it upon, the instructions are very simple. Also, I though it was going to be too big/heavy to mount in the case and might bend the board, but it really isn't as heavy as I thought it would be, certainly not heavy enough to strain the board.

How about the Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro? seems reasonably priced, good cooling and uses a normal clip to fasten.

Keep thinking about getting one myself as my 3200 isn't that quiet either.

:?

My AMD runs just fine with stock cooling and ASUS Q-Fan enabled, in fact, right now is running ~35ºC idle (just web browsing...), with the fan spinning at ~1200 RPM. To be honest, the chipset fan is doing more noise than any other fan in my PC.

And, the Artic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro would be a fine choice.
