Hello,

I am looking for a reasonably quiet PSU at an affordable price (think of a target zone being $60, $80 if it is totally quiet and wont crap out on me). I put a 400W Coolmax into my brothers new computer and it is really quiet (has low, high, and auto fan control). It does not need to be huge (400W would be fine, although 450W or 500W would be great too if affordable and quiet).

But I am basically looking for something fairly quiet. Is there anything better than the Coolmax for a reasonable price (the Coolmax was $46 at Newegg)? Thanks for some suggestions!

I used one of these for about a year and only replaced it because I was getting too many drives and other gizmos... wanted something bigger.

This is the one I replaced it with which will still be useful when I do my next mobo upgrade.

You might find better prices by shopping around but as a rule newegg has been a better dealer for me.

IF you want the best service and no problems on RMA's Newegg is the best. They have slid a little on priceing, most things at ZIPZOOMFLY are cheaper but I prefer NEWEGG.

Yeah, I like Newegg and ZipZoomFly. They are reliable and pricing is decent most of the time. I shop around, but if it is only a couple dollars I go with the safe bet of quick shipping, good communications, and solid support/RMA.

Any other suggestions on what I am looking for? A handful of products to compare would be nice :)

Here are a couple more to discuss. I am trying to keep this under $60 if possible unless a more expensive one is almost 100% quiet and has some other great feautures that make it more valuable (e.g. the modular one below is interesting):

<A HREF="http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=876412&sku=ULT31558&CMP=EMC-TIGEREMAIL&SRCCODE=WEM819CV" target="_new">X-Connect 500W.</A> I have seen it for $90 and is said to be fairly quiet. Anyone have expierence with this?

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=17-153-007&DEPA=1" target="_new">Thermaltake Silent Purepower.</A> $60, newegg customers seem to give Mixed messages about how quiet it is. I also tend toward an AUTO setting that will have low fan speed at desktop tasks and speed up when I am gaming. I do not want to have to turn a dial all the time since my PC is 5ft away. Does this have an auto setting?

<A HREF="http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-159-023&depa=0" target="_new">400W CoolMax</A>

Thanks for feedback and suggestions. I am just looking for something nice and quiet yet performs well. :)

Ive got one of the those particular Thermaltke PSU's that you listed and im just not crazy about it. It does ok, but the rails arent as steady as I think they should be. Its also loud. Ive got one of the new Thermaltake 680W and love it, but its way out of your price range.
