Hi Tom's Hardware,

I recently purchased an XFX Radeon R9 295X2 graphics card. Its supposed to be a "beast of a card" but I haven't noticed significant performance changes compared to my last card - an R9 270...
Arma 2, for example - I usually get around 45 fps no matter what I turn the settings to. I realize Arma 2 isn't the best at utilizing graphics power (it supposedly relies most heavily on just cpu), but shouldn't I be able to easily achieve 60 fps in 1080p on a game from 2009 with this card?

Do I have any significant bottlenecks in my rig? I would guess the worst one would be my RAM.

Here are my specs -

Radeon R9 295x2
AMD FX 6300 (6-core, 3.5 Ghz)
120gb SSD for Windows(8.1), and 1TB HD for games and files
8gb 1333 DDR3 ram
Asus M5A97 LE mobo
EVGA 1050w Power Supply

Thanks!
~Alex

Yep it's your cpu. Like you said ARMA 2 is cpu intensive.

You will unfortunately have to get a new mobo as well if you switch to intel.

Otherwise you can try a FX-8350 and that will raise your frame rates a bit.

Also I don't think ARMA does crossfire very well, which could be another reason why you don't see a huge improvement
Your CPU is pretty slow, particularly for games. I'd get at least a i5-4690K or more preferably a i7-4790K and overclock it as far as it will go. You could also wait for Intel's new sky lake chips to launch this fall. a 295X2 is a lot of graphics hardware.
