Although I have not caught up a lot with the video card news lately, I can assure you the new cards are on the way, and very much probably in the next month or so. The problem is more with delivery time as well as the new higher pricing to be expected (usually). Add to that the initial drivers bugs and initial card bugs.

I do think you should wait a month or two though, since personally, a new comp would do very well (if it's a fast CPU) with the new cards. The R9800PRO is great, but if you're building a new comp, why not wait and get the best of everything anyways. They'll be out during the times the new big games like HL2 and DOOM III are coming. It'll make sure you got the best technology in there.

You can use the CPU forum for good CPU advice.
I personally would also wait for CPUs. Or you could go for an Athlon 64 3200+. It's great, just that I would not go yet for the A64s until the boards get more mature.
The nForce 3 250 is coming soon. That may be the real deal for Athlon 64 platforms.

Hold on for a few more months IMO, for both the video card and CPU, it should be worth it!

Good luck!

Maybe the mobo manufacturers have to activate it

Yeah exactly.

Here's ROJAk's take on it from the 150 series, they did a good job looking into it, don't know why nV didn't address it.

http://www.rojakpot.com/default.aspx?location=3&var1=64&var2=0

Spitfire, nah it's all nV on this one. Via doesn't have this problem. Sure the MOBO MFR may be able to add something into their design as Rojak states, but they shouldn't have to since nV has known about this for a while.

i was thinking of an AMD Athlon64 3200+ on a MSI NEO-Fis2r

so in 1 or 2 months u say. u think old prices will drop?? or will the new cards and cpus just add up in there own price catagory

Well, with the rollout of the new A64 FX-53, the FX-51 goes down in price. They do not seem to be using any new categories to integrate new products. Not for the moment. But for GFX cards, I wouldn't be surprised if they become a-holes and rip us off with 599$ US for the new cards. The 256MB for nothing is costly, as it seems.

Dunno about their price drops honestly though. A 3200+ A64 would be a nice thing btw.

That is beyond me, I thought VIA was the only one remaining with the PCI lock issue. It would destroy a lot of potential enthusiasts' purchase considerations towards the A64s or the FXes. If you're looking to tweak, then likely the PCI Lock will serve you well.

On a CPU note, the FX-51 will become much harder to find upon the release of the FX-53, apparently AMD's policy is to phase out each of the old cock-of-the-walk chips as the new muscle is introduced to keep the vibe that the FX is a hardcore highend part.

That is an interesting news I was not aware of. Hmm, well I guess it should serve well for those considering an FX-51 then. Where did you read on this?

I've read even the Nforce3 250 doesn't have a functional PCI lock.
Where have you read this? I have read 2 nForce3 250Gb reviews thet clearly said they have PCI/AGP lock.

Where do you get the "Gb" thing after 250? There is no Gb anywhere!

There's 2 versions of nForce3 250. One is plain "nForce3 250" and another is "nForce3 250Gb". The "Gb" version has integrated Gigabit LAN and hardware firewall.

"nForce3 250Gb" is the actual name of the CHIPSET. Gb is for "gigabit ethernet".

Oh man, my bad. Man I have REALLY been away from the computer hardware lately.
To think, people used to come ask ME for tips and technical questions and thank me, in the CPU forum. I suck now hehe.

Ahh you know it's because we love you, but we don't LOVE you.

I was at your favourite store tonight (F.S.) picking up a copy of UT2K4 for $34.99CDN

Anywhoo, be well, and stay away from that Kanata Koochie it'll kill ya', or marry ya'.

Hey Rod, the PCI lock thing, I sent an email inquiry to chaintech, asking them about their ZNFS-250 mobo(names gives it away Nforce3 250) They told me the PCI lock doesn't seem to function properly, since SATA drives using onboard controller starts to fail as soon as FSB goes beyond 207.

So my hopes for the Nforce3 250's fading, now just waiting on the VIA's K8T800 Pro, promising 1000HT, and a FUNCTIONAL AGP/PCI lock.

I hate my TI4200.

Eden, it's true when I was making my decision going with Athlon64 it was a tough one. In the end i went with a mobo costed under 90CDN, the Gigabyte K8N, it's based on the Nforce3 150 chipset, it has functional AGP lock, no PCI lock, however no onboard SATA controller either, perfect, so I grabbed myself an Adaptec 1210SA SATA Raid controller. With a 3200+, 1G of PC3200 ram, and an Albatron FX5900, so far at 1.65Vcore, i've managed to hit 245FSB, not stable at all, can run 3dmark/aquamark at 240, can run prime95 only at 231.

I'm not planning to keep that mobo that long, when VIA comes out with K8T800 Pro, just gonna Ebay this one for like 30 bucks, and get something that can ACTUALLY OVERCLOCK WITHOUT THE SUBSYSTEMS FAILING!

I hate my TI4200.

I'm just waiting for the entire PCI Express Boom.

AGP prices should drop signicantly which makes a networkers job much easier and more profitable :)

Wow! You have good connection with ChainTech... Or they are willing to tell anyone the "problems" with their boards that are not already out. Because, this board is in "beta test" right now. It's not all company that would share the problem they have on "beta" version of their products.

I wish the PCI lock to work well on final board and/or with the K8T800 Pro.

Heheh, Kanata's got its share of peeps I guess.

My uncle travels every day to there from Hull, he works at Mitel.
My grandpa's sister lives there as well.

It's a nice clean town though.

Futureshop eh? Goddamn those "too-high-tech-for-you" people! I went to post my CV and they tell me to use the online system. So I head home, log on there, and they ask me questions. THE NERVE! They won't even take a look at my CV, rather they just tell me at the end: We're sorry, you currently do not match what we're looking for. We'll keep your application for 30 days and then you can retry!
AUUGHHH, they can't even give us a chance to show 'em what we got. I bet if they saw it, they'd know what multmedia expertise is all about.
