Radeon 9800pro problem!

Can somebody help me abouut my card. When I play Most Wanted & Carbon it simply kick me of the game. Without any message. Before 9800pro I had a nvidia fx5200 and played Most Wanted on lower resolution & details with no problems. But when I get radeon card I have problems with playing. Can this be a problem about temperature of 9800pro??? It has a stock cooler. Or something else???

Im sure that your 9800 pro is fine. Keep in mind that MW and Carbon utilize sm 3.0. How big is your monitor?
What rez?
What video settings in the game?

I had the exact same problem, even with an aftermarket HS on my 9800pro.
Tried playing MW, after 30 min it would just go right back to the desktop.
I need more info on your problem

I don't think that's a monitor problem.
Everything was fine with my gf5200 on lower resoution & details.
Carbon details: 1024X768 & medium details.
Monitor is 15", frequency 60 hz.
 
Im pretty sure that It is not a temperature issue.
Have you tried OCing your card?
Try uninstalling ALL drivers and make sure your HD is free from them and try reinstalling your drivers.

is your 9800 pro 128 or 256?
 
I haven't overclocked my card. Removed all display drivers and installed them again, but with no result. It's powercolor radeon 9800, 128mb,128bit
 
I have heard rumors that Powercolor are usually a hit and miss gfx card, there are not many enthusiasts who trust in powercolor because of their reputation of defective cards, even though they are cheeper at cost, they do not spend enough $$ on research and development, hence the hit and miss, ask sum one wha owned a power color.

Other than that I have no clue what the problem might be 🙁
 
I thought all 9800 pros were 256 bit. I had a gecube one with 128mb 256 bit RAM. Btw I own a powercolor x1950 pro card now and only have problems in oblivion. But my psu is likely the culprit since it only has one 18A 12V rail. And dont anyone give me the "You need 30A for that card" blurb coz I know you dont. 30A for the whole system maybe, but not the card.
 
could be psu problem 9800pro uses more power than fx5200. try playing another graphically challenging game see what happens.

No not all the 9800's are 256-bit. It depends on the version pro, standard and the socket type AGP/PCIe. Here is proof:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814102382R

Like someone else said, make sure you remove ALL old nVida drivers from the system and ALL old Ati drivers (Google it). Then reinstall the drivers. Also make sure the chipset drivers are ok. Final thing you can do is check that your card does run at reference speed.

Other probable causes have also been mentioned in this thread.
 
I have a couple questions that will give us a better idea of what is going on.

1. Does it kick you from the game immediately, or does it play for a while before crashing?

2. Have you tried reinstalling that game? The game's user files are stored in My Documents, so you can be sure to back them up before reinstalling.
 
I can play the game with no problems, and after some time it kicks me out of the game.
I have tried reinstalling the game but it doesn't helped.
 
Since the game doesn't crash immediately, that rules out a lot of possible system incompatibilities. My next question is, do you have the lastest patch version?

I had a similar problem with Most Wanted where my game would crash unexpectedly and somewhat often in the middle of races. It turned out that dust had built up in my video card heatsink (despite the case filters) and it was overheating just enough to glitch, but not enough to trigger VPU recover. Even without the heat issue though, I noticed that the game would to crash sometimes at the end of races when it started loading the race results screen. I started playing NFS: Carbon though and never tried to solve the problem.

For now I need to go get some sleep, but I will keep thinking about this and post back if I think of anything. Hopefully we can solve your problem.
 
If it plays for awhile then crashes, I suspect heat. Clean the card, and make sure it has enough power. (check your PSU, and make sure the cord is plugged in.)

Is the card new, or new to you? Its possible that you have a bad card.
 
maybe it's a bad card, but the guy who sold me tells that the card has no problems. The card is cleaned & has a zalman vf700 cooler. Maybe it is a problem with power??
 
The VF700 is a plenty powerful cooler for your video card, assuming that it is seated properly with good heatsink compound. But, as far as I know, that heatsink is flat on the bottom. If the guy who installed the cooler never removed the VPU shim, then it will not make proper contact and will overheat. This is something you need to inspect your card and find out if it was done properly.

To illustrate what I am saying:

As you can see, there is a metal shim around the outside perimeter of the chip. This shim is taller than the core and will prevent proper contact with a flat heatsink such as the VF700. I found this out first hand when I installed a Vantec Iceberq on my 9800Pro back in the day. Note that removal of this shim voids any warranty you may have (although it doesn't sound like you have a warranty anyway).

If the shim is still installed on your card, then it a likely source of your troubles. But as 4745454b says, it is also possible that you got a faulty card.
