Lets be honest here. ID has been going downhill since they released doom3. Sure doom3 was a great game but when you actually played it were you as blown away as you thought youd be? no probably not. I know I wasnt. When you first saw RAGE you thought the same thing right? Well it appears that ID's visionary programmer isnt as good as everyone is making him out to be. Now lets look at the Unreal3 engine... amazing graphics, hardware physics, and its used in hundreds of games from gears of war to mass effect... Then there's the crytek and frostbite2 engines as well. All of these are much better than anything ID has put out since doom3. After all of that hype surrounding rage what did we get? a half assed rpg/fps combat racing game with a horribly rushed ending and bad graphics. Well at least the character models were good... Those chicks were pretty hot... too bad all you could do was listen to them talk for a few seconds and get missions or buy stuff from them... good ol 1 dimensional characters! I think I'll go play through mass effect 2 once more on insanity and get rid of RAGE (and get the 20+gigs of my ssd space back).
[edit]Oh also I played this on a system with an i7 920 (running stock), 6gb of ram, an ocz vertex2 120gb, and a gts250 video card. On the highest graphics settings (save for AA which was at 2x), vsync enabled, at my monitor's 19x12 res, and I still had 60fps almost the entire time. Had to enable vsync to avoid the horrible screen tearing I got with my 28" monitor. I also found a bug in the game. It appears that if you bring up the options menu (esc) for a few minutes... lets say you hit the head or go make a cup of coffee, and come back and hit esc again to clear the menu it will turn off vsync! how lame is that!?[/edit]
