And this is why you dont buy games that are console ports to PC.

Shitty kiddie crap. Saw the trailers and it was obvious textures and polies looked low which reeked of freaking console port!!!!!!!!!!!

[citation][nom]amk-aka-phantom[/nom]You're absolutely full of $h!t. Gaming laptops are for people who are on the move a lot. I'd get one, because I often travel, but they're too overpriced in my country. I'm happier with a desktop, because it's upgradeable and more powerful for the same price, but I would never refuse to get a gaming laptop if I had the cash - you probably don't know what it's like, that's all. Gaming laptops are beautiful machines and they kick ass in all other tasks. Asus G-series is the best value for money, together with MSI gaming laptops. It's none of your business what kids play and if you ever do what you said, there're legal consequences to follow You can consider me a "kid", too, because many titles I play don't require a $2000 desktop to max out (I'm more about the storyline) and would play fine on something like an Asus G73/G53 or a similar MSI/Sager laptop, and I totally don't give a $h!t whether you like the games I play or not - there's a user base for these machines, and they don't care about your preferences.[/citation]
Are you sure you know the difference between a desktop and a laptop in price-performance?
"I'm not wasting money on a 2000$ desktop to max out games but I'd be willing to spend 1400-1800$ to play them on a laptop." - aka-phantom

PC Gaming is DYING! And people like John are the reason for it. Giving is shovel-wear on PC, to push us onto consoles, will finish off the PC as a gaming platform.

Best thing Micro$haft can do now for Windows 8, is build in a native XBox emulator, so we can play XBox games on our PC's. At least then, when we are playing console ports on our PC's, at least they will work.

F U John, I hope you die under a large pile of XBox and PS consoles.

This isn't just a PC issue; I've been playing the game on PS3 and it has the same horrible texture streaming issues where it can take a good 5 seconds for textures to load even if you just look behind you or at the ground. The game is beautiful when everything loads, but the lag in the texture streaming is the worst I've ever seen.

Sucks for some people ..... My 2500k oced to 4.5gigs, sli'd 580's and the BF3 beta drivers for nvidia I have not noticed any problems. The loads are lightning quick, maybe thats just me being lucky.

As far as that being said I am 6-7 hours into the game and I LOVE the game, I quit fallout 3 a few times and then ended up loving it. This game is actually awesome. The fights are always new and interesting, the AI is awesome on Hardcore and I couldnt be happier with my purchase. Id give fallout a 9-9.5. This game I would rate up there as well, sounds like the same game but quicker/twitch fire fights and better graphics. I mean even the new government is evil. But this game is a solid 8.5-9

Any time the game picks my settings for me, it always defaults to medium and 1280x1024 even though I have a newer i7 and a GTX 580. I have to set it to 1080p and then turn everything up to ultra.

With them testing the game months ahead of time, these kind of problems should never happen. Were they beta testing it on consoles only? It's sad PC gamers get the shaft.

AHH, that goodness for Usenet where one can actually TRY a game prior to purchasing it. RAGE reminds me so much of Fallout & Borderlands, In fact the menus styles and lettering fonts are exactly like Borderlands!! All in all, it's a fun game with some minor graphical glitches. It's also 21.1GB large, installed. I installed it onto my OCZ SDD and it runs great, no loading times, resumes saves immediately, but it doesn't fix some tearing and texture issues. FPS drops significantly from when ur walking around to when your on in vehicle.

I dont see why the software companys thing they can release something new and then require AMD and NVidia to make drivers to make it actually work. Same can be true with AMD when they release a new driver that breaks flash and then they say that flash has to do an update. No, it worked before your crap software, you fix it.

[citation][nom]Proxy711[/nom][citation]Maybe they focused too much on.... ?[/citation]http://www.firingsquad.com/news/ne [...] chid=23760yes JC even acknowledged that developing for consoles etc was a mistake in june.[/citation]

Yet, apparently did nothing to resolve those known problems. There is only one excuse for a 25gb game having texture problems. Bad console port. I can only wonder how Skyrim is going to be on the pc. 🙁

I bet that all of those good reviews are due to most people reviewing the Xbox 360 version.

I think by now this fact is painfully apparent : DON'T BUY A BIG GAME ON RELEASE, (MOST OF THEM) ARE BOUND TO HAVE PROBLEMS.

Instead : wait out for a few months, all the driver issues would have been worked out, patches released, a fair number of gamers paid to beta test for the publisher, and the game would $10 or so cheaper.

save the trouble and a few pannies...

Now, I haven't played the game yet, but I'm speculating a bit here. I figure the executable just 32-bit technology, so with the high texture sizes, high resolutions, and considerable detail in the levels, they've rapidly hitting the 2gb limit of what a 32-bit process can access in Windows. However the streaming of the data is simply not sufficient to keep up with the game's data needs. It would indeed be interesting if an SSD would help that. Is there a 64-bit version of Rage? If so (and the person running it has plenty of RAM) it shouldn't have the same problems if it's coded right.

I doubt the XBox o PS3 have this problem, since they're dealing with lower resolutions and (probably) lower texture detail. One or the other would reduce the amount of RAM needed to render an image considerably.

No graphic options is never a good sign and unacceptable for any PC game. BF3 Beta has been horrible too. That game hides behind the "beta" excuse, but releasing a beta less than a month before launch is inexcusable too because you know they're not going to fix the problems by then, and they're obvious issues that are taking away from otther issues that could've been stamped out through beta testing.

Game is running great on my 6970 xfx extreme once they released that patch 8) force triple buffering and vsync and your good to go. Game is awesome & I am glad I got it one of the best games I have played this year.

Nvidia 8( not so much I got an older xps m1730 sli 8800GTX and I can only use 1 card at the moment.. The texture popping is horrible but what do you expect with 512k vram hopefully nvidia will fix the SLI issue and I can actually use both of my 8800 gtx 1 gig ftw I hope my laptop can keep up...

Yeah, reminds you of Borderlands and Fallout so long as you ignore the fact it's totally linear and devoid of any sort of creativity or decent story-telling. I still don't get why people put Carmack on such a pedestal, I honestly think he hasn't come out with what I would consider a great game since Quake 2. I will admit, when working, RAGE is pretty, but the game itself is complete and total garbage and I can't wait for the ZP critique.

@dark_knight33

Id had good relationships with Nvidia, but I know that they did not even care to reply to AMD when concerns were raised about new drops and testing in a timely manner.

Yay!...Another console port.
This games on pc is all hype with Carmack name on it guess i bite but not again anymore.Shame on you Carmack liar you say it will not be a console port.

i remember this in halo 2, you'll have to give a sec or 2 so the textures get loaded, but back then and now consoles suck, but in pc there is no need for lack of textures in walls anywhere at all, dammit dammit

I don't like onLive very much. I am man enough to admit that the games I've demo'd on the onLive service, don't have graphics issues as sad as this game installed locally. I live a couple hundred miles from the nearest onLive service and a not so great ping, so that's saying a lot.

Maybe I will demo Rage on onLive when/if it is available there. It would really be neat to try a locally installed demo (if one ever exists) vs an onLive demo.

Except for the installer telling me I had the wrong version of the drivers... which I had... the game runs perfectly. I have had no trouble at all with texture popping. Great game !

1. Why would anyone by a laptop to play games on...Fail!
2. if rage was written to run on a console then it should fly on a PC unless they had to re-write giant portions of the engine which i doubt. hell they plan to run it on a phone.
3. I can bet the QA team had the exact same machine as the devs, SSD and all. Duh, do some closed beta testing or something to get an idea of how it will perform in the real world.
4. Mr carmack stop giving the can answer "update your drivers!", step out of your spoil rich boy world and install your software on an everyday gamers machine. Debug! Patch! Make Smiles!

Later all
