RAID0 Stripe Size and Space Lost

In a RAID0 configuration, does writing a file smaller than the stripe size yield to lost space?

For example, if I have a stripe size of 256KB and I write a file of 4KB, is the extra 252KB lost, or is it recycled by the RAID controller?

The RAID controller has no control over the amount of space a file will occupy. The size of each strip does not change how the OS handles the drive. It will only see a blank drive with x amount of space.

The OS and Disk Format determines the smallest allocation unit a file may occupy.
