I am currently looking to build a PC for video editing and gaming with the following specs:

CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 3700X
RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory

The CPU can support RAM at 3200 speed. I went with 64 GB RAM because video editing requires lots of RAM (more than 32 GB); however, I also want my computer to work well for gaming in 4K 60 FPS.

My questions are:
  1. Is this RAM fast enough for gaming at 4K or do I have to buy a faster CPU/RAM/MoBo combo?
  2. Are most AAA games optimized for 16 GB RAM max, so the games will not use more than 16 GB RAM i.e. the rest of the RAM would go to waste and faster RAM would be better?

Thanks.

Solution
you'll get 10-14% better framerates as the 3700x is better than the 2700x - if the CPU is bottlenecking the GPU. Playing at 1440p means the GPU is having to work harder which takes some of the strain off the CPU.

I'm still in the process of selecting one, but I was either going to go with the Nvidia 2060 Super or the 2070 or possibly wait a couple months and get a 3060.

For SDDs, I was going to go with the 1TB Samsung 970 EVO as a scratch drive and the Crucial P1 500GB for the OS/Program drive.
