Hello everyone,
I have an old Lenovo G580 (model Name: 20157). the configuration is as follows:
CPU: Intel Pentium Sandbridge B960 @2.20 GHz.
RAM: 2 GB DDR3 1333MHz
OS: Win 7 , 64 bit
Motherboard: Lenovo G580 1900004WIN8 STD SG
Now I want to expand the RAM to 8 GB. According to the Lenovo Service centre the laptop supports 8 GB RAM. I have seen that it has only one slot for RAM. Is there any way to check RAM compatibility before actually buying one ?Please help if you can.
Buying a new laptop is not an option for me right now, I do pretty basic stuff, watching movies, running simulation software (MATLAB), browsing the net and occasionally editing images in Lightroom.

Solution
Yes. Your board doesn't have second ram slot.
Should be located, where strip of contacts is with white paper in the middle.

It has only 1 RAM slot. I have checked by opening the back.

Thanks for the reply

So will my Laptop support a 8 GB RAM, ? How do I know?

Yes. It will support 8GB x1 DDR3 RAM or 8GB x1 DDR3L RAM.
I will keep you updated once I find the second RAM Slot.
