Hello,

Currently i am using Asus m4a89gtd pro/usb3 mobo with an amd x6
I've the following ram
g.skill f3 12800cl6 - 2gbpi x 4 i.e total 6 gb - this is not in the mobo's qvl but worked fine since last couple of years.
I use pc for 3d anim and vfx...maya, after effects, ps etc.

now due to increase in work load i feel to upgrade it to 16 gb

I've following ram available in store nearby:

Corsair Vengeance CMZ4GX3M1A1600C9
Gskill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL RAM
Gskill SNIPER F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR2

Which one should i go for.....upgrade is necessary by the end of this month...thanx
note: none of the above in the mobo's qvl.

Its fine, not to have the QVL RAM.

I recommend CORSAIR Vengeance 99% of the time, quality RAM and low profile with XMP profile. And if u will get an aftermarket CPU cooler, low profile is the worry free remedy with perfect fit with any large cooler.
CORSAIR Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Vengeance Low Profile heat spreaders have a reduced height of 1.03" (26.25mm). They're designed for high-performance systems with extra-large CPU coolers, small form factor system builds, or any other space-constrained application where standard Vengeance memory might not fit.

Thanks Nikorr for your reply..... but the vengeance with long heat spreader is $32 here and the one you've shown with small heat spreader is $54 both are ddr3 1600 with same timings...then why such a difference in price ?...is it just the design or something else....
BTW long heat spreader is no worry ... my current ram is also that long.
What you say ?

ohhh...how could i miss it...sorry.... i wish to go for 4gb x 4 = 16 gb

i need one more advice....with this workstation i also have an old pc lying around which i use to watch movies and dnld stuffs.

my old pc runs an e4500 from intel and 4 gigs of ram(i used photoshop in it earlier)....

opt. 1
can i connect it to my amd based workstation to make a render node ? will intel and amd x6 help in rendering or give issue.

opt 2.
I buy a new cheap amd x6 compatible mobo with 4 ram slots as well as another amd x6 and
plug in my old g.skill 8gigs ram in it and make my own render node....
it has 450W power and also has a HD4650 gpu.......
what else will i need ?

pls advice.

You could work with even more RAM. 4 x 8Gb = 32Gb! It costs almost nothing - about $100!
I've set cheap 8Gb Transcend PC3-10700 (667MHz) modules and i've got all 32Gb of RAM on this ASUS M4A89GTD ProUSB3!
Now our MS SQL using about 30Gb of RAM. Works like a charm :)

Thanx for the reply....But Asus says this model can only support 16 Gb max Ram...how did u manage 32 Gb !!! Is it compatible ?

Hi Glossum,

thanks for your reply, i dont know i'm very skeptical with the 32gb of ram in m4a89gtd pro/usb 3. but what you say is logical the ram is administered for the processor, I have a 1100T Black Edition i'm thinking to buy a 8X4gb of RAM.

Excuseme but you can to upload a photo or cpu-z screenshot that shows de amount of ram.

Further, the board requires additional cooling.

thank you.

Thanks so much for your reply and screenshots Glossum :). I'll buy the amount of RAM (32GB).

thank you again.

Thought the max mem size is 4gb per module?

Late on the post I know but do tell how you get more than 16 mine posts with 20 I know odd ball number its what I have laying here but only says 10 useable windows 7 64 bit phenom ii x4 1100t 20 gb ram
