Question Random black screens while gaming ?

Hello,

I am currently absolutely desperate for help with an ongoing issue that I've been dealing with for a couple weeks now.

My PC just randomly started black screening during gaming sessions. All 4 of my monitors instantly go black and loose signal but my PC keeps running, lights are still on, fans are still going and I still hear my game audio but not everything though. For example if I am playing CS, I'll hear the ambient map sounds but I won't hear any of the shooting or walking. I can also still hear my friends talking on Discord but they eventually cut out after like 5-10 seconds of the black screen happening. I eventually just hold the power button and restart my PC manually at this point.

It also happens very non-consistently and pretty randomly. It's usually not instantaneous. I could play for 6 hours and not get it and then get it 3 times in a row in a span of 15 minutes, so that makes it very hard to troubleshoot.

I have tried an unreasonable amount of things like different power options, changing some settings in NVIDIA control panel, tried DDU, plugging my PC in a different wall outlet, memtested my ram (0 errors), resetting CMOS and BIOS and trying different versions, disabling hardware acceleration, completely reformatting my SSD and reinstalling Windows, the list goes on. I feel like I've tried everything.

Also, pressing CTRL+WIN+SHIFT+B doesn't work. Also logged the temps in HWiNFO when a crash happened and everything was good.

I checked the event viewer to see what was going on before the crashes and I usually get a NVLDDMKM Event ID 14 error, but not always. I also get an error about GameInput service shutting down, but again, not always. Not sure if these are in any way relevant to the crashes but there you go.

My specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800x
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super
MOBO: MSI MPG X570 Gaming Edge WIFI
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken x52 240mm Liquid Cooler
RAM: G.SKILL Trident Z RBG series DDR4 32GB 3200MHz
PSU: Corsair 650W CP-9020177-NA RMX SeriesRM550x 80 Plus Gold
Case: Corsair CARBIDE 275R Mid-Tower

I am running Windows 10 on a Samsung EVO SATA 250GB SSD

Please help me.

Update: I got a 1050TI to test out to see if my GPU was dead and I used it all day and let FurMark run all night without any crashes. Does that mean that my card is dead? Or that my PSU just can't supply my 2070S?

The PSU may not be adequate for the 2070S. It would be impossible to tell if its the 2070S failing or if you need a higher wattage PSU until you can test with either a higher wattage PSU or have another PC with a reliable higher wattage PSU. I would not want to say you have a dead card when its actually good just for you to have similar issues with a new replacement card. This PSU would be able to help you narrow down what's going on.

To be clear, is your PSU 550W or 650W? When did you buy the PSU and did you buy it new? Nvidia recommends a minimum 650W PSU for your GPU. When I Google CP-9020177-NA all I'm getting is results for the 550W PSU. It could be that, if it is the 550W that I think it is, it could have been just enough several years back but now, over time, it's degraded just enough to not be quite enough to power your GPU.
