Does anybody know what (if any) the performance impacts are of using different file formats for windows desktop wallpaper. Clearly, i imagine massive bitmaps may be slow to initialy load purely due to the ammount of data thats being shifted from the hard drive, but that asside.. any ideas / input ?

Why don't you experiment with the wallpaper you want to use?

Windows won't be using any method of use that significantly impacts on performance.

You can use any type of image as wallpaper, so why would Windows use a large bitmap file for wallpaper?
