First off i have a bad Asrock A320M HDV R4.0 motherboard. Though i googled it and it seemed like it supported the 5700X. Ive seen people say it runs completely fine with them.

I bought a 5700X and a 7800XT to revive this old girl. But after i put in the 5700X when i stress test it, the computer immediately starts bugging out. I thought it was maybe a bios version problem so i updated it to the latest version and still same stuff. After that i went back and put in my 1600X. I stress test it, computer bugging out again. Im assuming it doesnt work well now because the 10.xxx BIOS version doesnt work well with 1st gen Ryzens to i try to roll it back. Every time i try to flash it with an older version it says invalid file.

Ive tried pressing F9 and defaulting the settings but still nothing. I tried the 7.00 bios version, ive tried the 1.00 and every time it says invalid file. I have no idea how to roll back the BIOS to test it with the old version. My gpu got stuck and when i tried pushing the little PCIE flap down i banged the mobo. It didnt seem like i did any damage, nothing really visual. I hope its not due to that.

In general im just begging for help. I was very disappointed when i realized the 5700x works awful. I can run some less demanding games and the PC works just fine but it doesnt look good when it bugs out when im stress testing it. Also the temps seem great on both CPUs. Nothing weird with that. The 5700x was idling around 40C or high 30s and now the 1600x is idling around 30C.

Im begging for help. A start would be a way to roll back the BIOS version. Or maybe i can get the 5700x to work i have no idea.

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to include your full system's specs. Please list the specs to your build like so:
CPU:
CPU cooler:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:
Monitor:
include the age of the PSU apart from it's make and model. BIOS version for your motherboard at this moment of time.

Considering you performed an upgrade, please list the before and after of your specs list.

Downgrading the BIOS often times leads to a bricked board. On other instances, there usually is a note stating not to downgrade the BIOS after a particular version. In your instance;

if you paid attention to the cautionary literature in yellow...this is what they said;
**** User will not able to flash previous BIOS once upgrading to this BIOS version.

I bought a 5700X and a 7800XT

That lacks a competent VRM design, considering that the 3000 series and above stressed the VRM more than the 1000 and 200 series processor, I'd wager that your issue stems from the a mediocre motherboard.

CPU: Ryzen 5 1600X
CPU cooler: Wraith Max
Motherboard: A320M HDV R4.0
Ram: 2x8GB HyperX 3200Mhz
GPU: Asrock RX 590 8BG
PSU: Cooler Master 750W G GOLD V2 bought it last month in prep for this upgrade
OS: Windows 10 Pro 64 bit

I bought a Sapphire RX 7800 XT Pulse and a Ryzen 7 5700X.

Also something i noticed: since RAM defaults to 2400 Mhz after updating the BIOS, when i bumped it up to 3200Mhz some weird lines started appearing near the cursor and shortcuts on the taskbar and then the PC just shut off. So im thinking its definitely VRMS. I guess ill use it until i get a new mobo.

Are you using Wraith Max cooler with 5700x ? It's most probably overheating.
300 series MBs are notorious for poor RAM handling. Keep RAM under 3000Mhz.
"A" motherboards have half size BIOS so not many options for tuning.
6 phase VRM is good up to 100W and 5700x can pull up to 120W.
For now try undervolting CPU as much as possible with some power limitations. It will still be much better than 1600x.

The temps are fine. Actually Cinebench 2024 worked completely fine, i just got a lower than expected score.

I ordered an MSI B550 mobo i just couldnt deal with this stuff. I hope that will fix these issues.

When you installed the new CPU, did you perform a fresh install of Windows or keep the existing boot drive unchanged?

I had one machine that bogged down after upgrading the CPU and I was too lazy to reinstall Windows. I think it was on its third CPU. Serves me right for not doing things properly.

Sometimes you can get away wihout reinstalling Windows after a "simple" processor swap. Other times not. You've jumped several generations.

If you have a spare SATA SSD, it's worth spending an hour installing Windows and a handful of favourite apps, to see if it improved things.

This is good advice, i didnt do it. Might be whats causing but i realized i need a better mb regardless. If it keeps happening with the new one ill just do a clean install.

Have you ever reset CMOS? If not, do so and make no changes at first, just run Windows to see how it works for you.

You can't roll back BIOS from later versions in many instances. If anything, I'd suggest using the latest version anyway for best stability with Ryzen 5000 processors and security.

I didnt cause i didnt think it could help. Ill try it right now and see if it helps.

Definitely try it on the old MB before breaking down and buying the new one.

But you should also install Windows fresh on any new motherboard if you get it anyway. Just do it, you'll be chasing problems forever if you don't. MS will make you buy a new license for it, so you might as well get it all fresh and new.

Reseting cmos is definitely something you need to do after a cpu or ram swap. Also, a BIOS update is not enough, you also need to make sure you have the latest AMD chipset driver installed.

Also, you said your temperatures are fine but you only mentioned idle temp. That doesn't mean anything. You need to measure it under load. If you get lower score than expected it might be that the CPU is throttling because it's running too hot.

And yeah, getting a better board is probably a good idea (and you should get a better cooler too).
