Thank you sooooooooo much for this advice. I was having the same problem and I tried exactly what you said. It worked. My sounds are Great!!!! =)

Was Hopeless in NJ, but not anymore.

I had the same problem until I downloaded a Windows 7 driver for the Realtek Audio Manager. My mobo is a gigabyte model GA-EG45M-UD2H with an LGA775 socket. I downloaded from the Gigabyte web site www.gigabyte.us. Unless you see the same sound manager photo as the one shown in this thread, then try the download. Otherwise the techie solution will work.

go to your taskbar, select the sound thing (you know the lil' speaker thing) the master volume pop up will pop up...go to options and select properties another pop up should pop up over here theres a drop down menu called mixer device, choose "Realtek (etc etc) input" check if Front Mic is selected in "Show the following volume controls box:" box. if its not, then check it then click ok, the master volume should now display the volume settings for your front mic panel, chances are, either the Line In or Front Mic is on mute, unmute them if thats the case, TA-DA!

I had the same problem, tryed to disable front panel detection but it didn't work! What you have to do is:
* Go to the Mixer tab;
* Press the properties button on the Playback part (the top one);
* Check that "Enable playback multi-streaming" is disabled (no cross in the box);
* And press Ok!

It should now be working!

I installed Hd audio drivers and i just noticed that i can only get my speakers to work by letting my realtek HD audio manager think my rear speaker port is my front speaker port. This is happening on top of my original problem which has been the fact that i cannnot seem to get my front mic or headphone jack to work. System seems to think my headphone jack is my mic jack and vice versa. Not always but almost every time i plug something in this happens. It also looks like im constantly connecting and disconnecting both of these devices

i do not have realtek in my control panel

i think windows got prolem with this. bec my machine all sound are all ok both front and rear if i use win XP sp2. but when i use win vista if i use the front audio the rear will not work and also when i use rear audio the front will not work.. and now i use win 7 my audio working only at the rear.. also i assembled two another pc i put win 7 also there is no audio at front panel.

my front panel wasnt working so I just rolled back the driver and now it is working.
It seems the more they try to fix things the more they mess it up.

after changing the settings in the BIOS setup, the "folder" on your audio manager should reappear. that is when you can enable the multi-streaming.

I went to bios to chipset configuration as you said , at south bridge chipset configuration but the front panel had me choose between AC97 and HD AUDIO. I set it to AC97 and when i boot the speakers were enabled as a default device, but still no sound and the folder does not apper at the realtek hd audio manager, Any ideas? Thank you

Hey guys my audio manager seems different from all urs. i could not find the disable front panel detection. the only option i have is mute rear panel output. So what should i do? ty

I have the same problem, i disable the front panel detection but didn't work. I try to follow your instruction but i can't find the Mixer tab. Where is the mixer tab you mentioned about?

Hey, thanks!!! Your way solve my problem too !!! :)

I'm not sure why this works, but it's worked for me twice now.
Go into Device Manager and uninstall all drivers for your Realtek sound device. To get to Device Manager, right click on my computer, and go to hardware then click on Device Manager. If you're in Windows 7, right click on Computer and on the left side panel you'll see device manager. Now, while in there, click on the sound arrow and click on the Realtek sound device. Right click on Realtek sound device and click uninstall. If it asks you whether you want to uninstall the driver too, click yes.
Now immediately after that, plug your headphones into you headphone jack and restart the computer. You have to do this immediately afterwards or else it'll reinstall the drivers. When your computer restarts it should take a bit at the beginning and it'll reinstall the drivers. Your front panel should be working now.
