So I recently purchased and installed a new gtx 1070 after my gtx 780ti had artifacts. After installing the new gpu, running games starts out fine, but then drastically drops to sub 50 fps. I'm hoping its a driver issue but I am not ruling out a bad connection, insufficient power, or something else.
PC Specs:
CPU: i7 3770k
GPU: gtx 1070
Mb: Gigabyte GA-Z77M-D3H
2 ssd: 250 + 150
1 HDD: 2TB
Ram: 16gb (2x8gb)
PSU: Thermaltake TR2 RX 650 Watt (More than enough to run my current system
Update: Currently I have reinstalled the most recent driver for Nvidia, while doing so I had to restart the installation multiple times as the installer would not progress pass performing initial installation. However after another attempt it was able to install fine. I tried running Dota 2 after this and it begins with a solid 120+ fps, but then very quickly goes down to below 60fps.
Last Update: I was able to fix the problem by properly placing the gpu in the pci-e slot as well as making sure the cpu fan was in contact with the cpu.
