o.k. good was just making sure you knew if not was going explain it :) if your willing to spend $200.00 go for it personally i seem to notice most motherboards that are worth even buying in the long run are never cheaper than $130.00 anyway unless you get them on some special or combo deal so $200.00 is not very over priced when considering a mobo imo

Yeah, I guess I just don't see whats so much better about the EVGA or Maximus MOBO's that increases the price 2 fold.

The Extreme6 is on sale for labor day weekend so I will think it over...

Manufacturers will throw on "extreme" or "gaming" onto a product and bump up the price because some people buy for the name. Look at the LGA 2011 CPUs i7 3960X vs 3930K. 1000 dollars for the extreme edition and 600 for the 3930K with only a 1-2% performance gap between them

As an update I have purchased the following:
Phantom 410 Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811146086
ASRock Z77 Extreme6 (was $30 off at Newegg so I picked it up): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157295
90GB Kingston HyperX 3K (also $30 off): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820239044
Noctua NH-D14: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835608024

I already have the following:
Ripjaws Ram
Optical drive
2x 2TB 7200 RPM Sata drives

I still need to buy the following:
CPU
GPU
PSU

In regards to GPU's, the Hawk we were talking about last week is out of stock on both newegg and amazon. I read a really good review about the gigabyte 7870 being good but I'm not sure how the 3 smaller fans stack up against the 2 fan models in the MSI/Sapphire versions.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125418

I was going to get the Sapphire OC that I linked below but it has gone up in price and is now $260 for standard, $280 for OC edition, and $290 for flex edition:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=50001561&IsNodeId=1&Description=7870&name=Sapphire%20Tech&Order=BESTMATCH&SecondSearch=1

Then I also wanted to ask what is better out of the 2 PSU's you linked me. You said good things about the $100 Rosewill Capstone series but I noticed that the XFX 750w was on sale at amazon for $111 + $10 rebate:

CPU: 3750k/3770k (obviously)

GPU:

Pick the one you like 😀 they are all three the same.

PSU: the XFX psu you linked.

Get the xfx psu if it's cheaper because it's built by seasonic 😉 There on par with one another Rosewill Capstone series is gold rated the xfx is silver rated get which ever is cheaper for your video card i would suggest http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127662#top

not as good as the other two but it is good enough if you like it go for it 😉

For a system using a single AMD Reference Design Radeon HD 7870 graphics card AMD specifies a minimum of a 500 Watt or greater power supply. The power supply should also have a combined +12 Volt continuous current rating of 27 Amps or greater and have at least two 6-pin PCI Express supplementary power connectors.

Total Power Supply Wattage is not the crucial factor in power supply selection. Total Continuous Amperage Available on the +12V Rail(s) is the most important factor.

Factory or manual overclocking of the CPU and/or GPU will require an additional increase to the combined +12 Volt continuous current ratings, recommended above, to meet the increase in power required for the overclock(s). The additional amount required will depend on the magnitude of the overclock you are trying to achieve.OCZ Fatal1ty 750W Modular Gaming 80Plus Bronze Power Supply is more than sufficient to power your system configuration with a single Radeon HD 7870.

Is there a way to see Total Continuous Amperage?

I don't care too much about the red lights if the other PSU's are better.

Noise is more of a concern for me than led lights. I just read that the XFX was fairly loud and did not use silent fans while the Rosewill and OCZ PSU's did

I really liked the MSI hawk edition but it just went out of stock =(

I've read that the sapphire 7870's are quieter than the MSI frozr, and I have read mixed reviews about the gigabyte card. One place said the 3 fans were quieter because they didn't need to spin as fast while other places said the 3 fans were louder.

I can't judge gigabyte fairly i don't trust them and the cards i bought in past were garbage and they didn't make it right so i never bought their branded cards again doesn't mean they are not good though 😉

So in regards to teh Rosewill capstone series... the only reason to get the 750m over the 650m is in case I crossfire gpu's at a later date?

your card needs 175w of power, that means it needs 14,58A on the 12v rail. of course... the GPU is not the only thing that uses the power of the 12v rail... your CPU+GPU TDP is 270w so you need 22.5A to fire them up... keep adding more Amps for any other device you have (fans, motherboard,HDD, optical drives....etc)

I have a quick question about multiple monitors.

With the 7870 I can only use 2 monitors? I'm not sure I understand the minidisplay ports on high end graphics cards.

If there are 4 connections why can't you use 4 monitors?

What about using the CPU's onboard graphics? Can I use the onboard CPU graphics to enable a third monitor?

Does the 7950 I linked run louder than the 7870's?

I'm really bummed that the hawks went out of stock =(

I have bought everything except the GPU now
