Redirect My Docs to another drive/partition

Before I image a computer...I do the following:

(1) Redirect My Documents to the D: drive (logged in as Admin1; just an
example - local)
(2) Reboot
(3) Log in as another Admin (Admin2 example)
(4) Copy the Admin1 profile to Default User and allow everyone

NOTE: This is all done as part of workgroup - NEVER joining to domain.

However, after I do sysprep and image the computer and the FIRST domain user
logs in, and the My Documents was not redirected! Since I copied that
profile to DEFAULT USER PROFILE containing the new location of My Docs, I
thought it would apply to everyone that logs in. What's the problem or fix?

I do something very similar in the University lab I maintain, but with
domain computers rather than workgroups, so it may be different.

I build my default user profile to point mydocs, desktop, my pictures, and
my music to the d: drive, because C: is frozen with Faronics Deep Freeze.
I do this by setting the appropriate keys here:

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Note that "Personal" is really my documents.

I set all 4 keys to type REG_EXPAND_SZ (lets you put variables in the
path), and set them like this: D:\%USERNAME%\Desktop, at so on. I do this
early on in the image building process, to make sure that all programs not
smart enough to ask windows where these foldes are every time get working.

Anyway, I then copy the admim profile to the default user, using control
panel - system - advanced - user profiles, log in as the local admin,
delete all other profiles, sysprep, and image. Everything works fine then.

Hope that helps some,

-Jonathan

There is an area in the one of the setup *.SIF files, that allows you to
redirect aka name where you want certain system folders to be, here is where
I make this change before saving the image - that was old school, but you
may wish to check it out.
We now redirect the whole kit and caboodle "D&S" to the users network drive,
along with employing roaming profiles. It may be a few milliseconds slower,
but we can back them up at the network level, and with the roaming profiles,
when they are not connected to the network (as in laptops) their documents
are cached locally and resynced on network connection.
