With my GF2MX I am unable to increase the refresh rate beyond 75hz in 1280x1024. There is no option to increase it futher, but in 1024x768 there is the option to do 100hz, so in 1280x1024 75hz seems too low (not to mention the monitor can do more). Any idea how I could get it to 80 or 85hz?

What make is your card? I just checked at teh Elsa website and it said the MX does these refresh rates.
Resolutions refresh rates with
256 colors (8 bit)
64K colors (16 bit) 16.7 million colors (24 bit/32 bit)
2048 x 1536 60– 75 60– 75 60– 75
1900 x 1440 60– 85 60– 85 60– 85
1600 x 1200 60–120 60–120 60–100
1280 x 1024 60–170 60–170 60–150
1024 x 768 60–200 60–200 60–200
800 x 600 60–200 60–200 60–200
640 x 480 60–200 60–200 60–200

Refresh rates are determined by 1) the Plug N Play feature of monitors and 2) the monitor's .INF file. Sometimes the monitor does not report the correct information back to Windows. For Windows (9x/ME. Don't know about Win2K) to use the parameters of the .INF file do the following:

1. Display Manager >Settings >Advanced >Monitor
2. Make sure the monitor listed is in fact your monitor.
3. Uncheck (deselect) Automatically detect Plug & Play Monitor
4. Save the settings and reboot when requested.

If this doesn't work then the .INF file does not contain information regarding higher refresh rates for your monitor.

I followed your advice and unfortuantely the .inf must not support the max refresh rate despite the boasts of the company. Thanks for your help.

I'm in a bit of a hurry right now. I will send you a better response when I get a chance.

In the meantime, if you search for one of my previous posts I explained how to use another monitor's .INF. You have to be sure of your monitor's capabilities because you can damage it with the wrong refresh rate.

Are you sure your monitor is capable of 85hz @ 1280? What model is it?
