Hi,

I am currently on a Sony VAIO laptop (Z series) that uses VAIO Care. They have a tool called a registry defragmenter and I activated which apparently is a mistake.

Now everytime I start up my laptop, this registry defragmenter/cleaner would start like (Windows 7 Loading screen-> registry defragmenter start up -> then it displays a "please wait" -> skips to Windows 7 login screen).
Which means the registry defrag never even starts up.
This creates an issue because everytime I restart or start up my laptop, it goes through this same process which delays my start up time.

The registry defrag tool seems to be run by Iolo technologies.
And after some research, apparently the Iolo tools are built into VAIO Care with no configuration to turn this off.

I uninstalled VAIO Care and found "Iolo" on my registry (which I removed as well).

Issue still persists.

Anyone have any idea on how I can solve this?

Hi,

Thanks for the response:

USAFRet - The registry cleaner/defrag tool is built into the VAIO Care - making it completely inaccessible. I don't see the "Use" or "Never use" column.

aldan - I do not see the Iolo system defrag or any VAIO as start up on msconfig unfortunately.

I'll try to provide a picture tomorrow if it may give more insight.

The Use/Never Use thing was simply a general concept on "registry tools"....those things do far more harm than good.
Not related to your particular PC.

Look in your Task Manager in Processes. See if you can disable that process and keep it from starting.

I agree. Unfortunately, no - I don't see system mechanic in my programs and features.

I feel like the Iolo registry defrag from VAIO Care activated something and when I uninstalled VAIO Care, it didn't reverse the defrag. Even if I were to re-install VAIO Care, it doesn't even present any option to cancel the registry defrag startup.

I usually remove startup items from the registry.

run regedit
go to
HKey Local Machine\software\wow6432node\microsoft\windows\current version\run
(delete anything that has to do with iolo or system mechanic)

HKey Local Machine\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run
(delete anything that has to do with iolo or system mechanic)

HKey Current User\software\microsoft\windows\current version\run
(delete anything that has to do with iolo or system mechanic)

Close regedit

Then check task scheduler
start - accessories - system tools - task scheduler

Select task scheduler library on the left side, look in the small middle window for tasks (you can delete everything you find), just select and press delete, then Y to confirm.

Checked the registry, no luck in finding anything relating to Iolo.
Through task scheduler, I disabled all the VAIO startups, restarted laptop, issue still persists.

Not sure what is going on but this Iolo thing seems very persistent on staying.

If you let it run all the way through, what happens on subsequent boot up?
Same thing?

I made a thread in their support forum but have not gotten a response yet.

Since Sony sold off their VAIO laptop line, it seems like they outsourced the support to Sutherland Global Services.
They seem to charge $$ for the online support.

Hi everyone,

One of the moderators from the Sony VAIO support forum provided the solution:

"Go to Registry
Expand the key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE>Microsoft>Dfrg>BootOptimizeFunction.
Right-click on the keyword "Enable" and click edit
In the Value data field type, N, Confirm by OK
Right-click on the keyword "Optimizecomplete" and click edit
In the Value Data field, replace Yes by No. (case sensitive)
Confirm by OK"

Just in case anyone in the future have the same issue and needs an answer.

Thanks again everyone for your help!

I don't see the keyword Enable. All I see is Default value (value not set)
