Question Repeater Setup

My setup is Arris S33 modem, Asus RT-AX58u (wireless router), I want to use my Asus RT-AC68P as the repeater.
After I use repeater mode on the 68P do I have to use the same name of the 2.4ghz and 5ghz channels in both routers?
If so how would know which router a device is connected to?

The point of a repeater is you don't know which WIFI source you are connected to. If you can provide a wired connection between the two Asus devices, then you can use access point mode on the AX58 and have independent WIFI names.
