I guess that's oneway of getting Windows 7 mobile out there. If I were a competing phone company, I'd definitely drop any plans to have a Windows mobile platform in my lineup now.

I believe that Microsoft is doing the right thing by expanding it's branch into the phone business, not so sure if that is any good for Nokia somehow. But look at apple and see how they are doing well by building their own peace of hardware and how amazing is their hardware/software integration. Microsoft is so criticized because it has a OS that sells for every computer in the world and not just for a specific hardware. If Microsoft were to shrink their business by putting their OS in a Windows computer i bet you they would have the best computers and the best hardwares. I'm happy to see Microsoft starting to integrate things by now and hopefully that will be extended to the PC market, maybe by buying Lenovo or such.

Hmmmm......wonder if Elop is getting any kind of financial kickback or stock options for delivering Nokia into MS's hands.

Not just expanding its branch, but also expanding its brand!

[citation][nom]rpgplayer[/nom]didn't microsoft already try the cell phone business? the kin 1 and kin 2? from what i recall they couldn't even get microsoft employees to use them.[/citation]

Buying off danger was a total waste of money. At least Nokia makes good handsets. Hopefully Microsoft will make good investment out of it.

To ask the dumb question: what would be left of Nokia is they sold their Mobile Division? Without their own OS (now that they've WP7) and without hardware, there doesn't seem to be much left.

Unless there is an upside for Nokia, this sounds more like an empty rumor.

This is terrible, now everything makes sense, I couldn´t believe why Nokia was going to Windows 7 instead of Android, now this guy former microsoft employee changes the whole picture.. If nokia is bought by microsoft we are lost.. the excelling brand will be crap at last..
I wonder how the market would have reacted if they would have changed the OS of N8 and E7 to android, the picture and market share would be totally different!

Android is not that good at all. It's just that google is the sweetheart of the people now. Google is now THE ''Coca-Cola'' of the tech industry so anything they build will catch up. Let's be fair, the concept is all apple's. Google is now making the same mistake as Microsoft by allowing just any crappy phone/hardware to use their OS. Every time i work with a Android phone the experience is not quite as exciting as apple's. The phones are jerky. I don't think Nokia would have improved it's self by using Android. Now Microsoft is taking the chance to do it differently on their side. I too hope they manage Nokia as though it is their last chance in the cellphone market.[citation][nom]PKL[/nom]This is terrible, now everything makes sense, I couldn´t believe why Nokia was going to Windows 7 instead of Android, now this guy former microsoft employee changes the whole picture.. Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 in a tablet with brand Nokia...? Hmmm....
Logan seems to be the best Tegra chip ever...looking into teh year 2012...2013
Corporate CIO's might want a better control over phones/tablets thus RIM will die and Windows Phone 8 will rule...in two years...opinions on my great predictions

Making the 'same mistake' of dominating the bulk of the market, making the most profit, and creating the most developed, far reaching products... Watch out... Apple is King of Peoria

[citation][nom]eddieroolz[/nom]This sure has potential, but after the acquisition of Skype I doubt Microsoft should (or is a position to) commit in another large deal.[/citation]

A few years ago, Microsoft had ~$40 billion in reserves. They likely still have this and more in the bank. They could easily purchase several more Skypes. This is assuming Microsoft hasn't squandered the money in the past few years or Windows + Office has turned massively unprofitable or the SEC hasn't stepped and said that MS has too much money in the bank (hence the huge $3 dividend a few years back).

The potential Yahoo deal was much larger and would have exhausted all the money in the bank and would have forced Microsoft to get a loan for the first time in decades. This is why so many Microsoft employees were against the Yahoo deal (or at least puzzled or shaking their heads and asking 'why').
