its probably being delayed deliberately to coincide with the next gen console releases. For instance, do i buy a next gen console or do i buy a new graphic card ? ( the answer is obvious a new a graphic card) but for some out there it will at-least bring up the question when these consoles start getting released.

Since nvidia isnt making gpus for the consoles, they should really start advertising with such statements as, "why go console when you can put a graphic card in your pc for the same price and get more power".

The silver lining being that this seems to indicate they are going full steam ahead with a console GPU design, meaning that a console launch must be fairly close. Keeping in mind these things take years to design, but if they switched most of their R&D team over to the console chip I would assume that means they need to hit a soon-ish launch date, perhaps this year.

It does suck that there will be no new architectures this year, but the way graphics cards are right now, I'd be fine with dropping prices and introducing higher clocked versions for the same price, things certainly have gotten into "good enough" territory for most reasonable resolutions.

They are waiting for TSMC to get new production node. If TSMC can not produce new GPU at better productin node, both companies are forced to wait... if TSMC is late we have to wait even longer...
It has nothing to do with AMD and Nvidia.

I thought that both companies were sticking with 28nm for their next generation. Am I wrong?

Not sure though. Those upgrades that has been released (mainly 7790, that is actually new generation card with older production node) does not bring a lot of more power vs. size so it seems to be sensible to wait until next node is ready, but I am not sure if there has been a confirmation in any direction in this matter. But all rumours that has delayed the new released to the end of this year or to the beginning of the next support the idea that they are waiting TSMC.
