Reserving 266MHz FSB Thunderbirds

Could somebody explain to me whether the 133/266 MHz Athlons are actually any different than the 100/200 MHz chips just with the multiplier reduced to get the same overall clock speed ? In the tests of the KT133A boards it sure looked like they were able to take old fashioned 100/200 MHz chips and run 'em at 133 MHz FSB just by lowering the multiplier. If so, doesn't this mean that there's no point in waiting for the new chips - since once unlocked they'd be exactly the same ?

If I'm mistaken please correct me as I'm deciding on an imminent CPU purchase, but can wait if the difference is real rather than semantic.

From what I can tell there is no difference. I read a review at AnandTech about the AMD760 chipset and they talked a little bit about the 133Mhz FSB CPUs. Here's what they had to say:

The only thing that sets the 1GHz and 1.2GHz CPUs apart from their 100MHz FSB counterparts is their clock multiplier. While the 100MHz FSB Athlon running at 1.2GHz has a 12.0x clock multiplier (12 x 100 = 1200MHz), the 133MHz FSB version only has a 9.0x multiplier (9 x 133 = 1200MHz). Obviously if you have a motherboard that can get around the clock multiplier lock this won’t pose a problem to you, but if not, then you will want to make sure that you only use a 133MHz FSB CPU on an AMD 760 board.

I don't need that type of remark, please. I own a very successful business and I have a wonderful social life.

I'm just so techie savvy that whenever I get on my computer, I find myself here....

I am suprice that any ordinarily athlon and duron originally at 100/200 FSB can go 133/266

I have a A7V and tried it while lowering the multiplier. I coult not get the FSB to go even 100/220

any comments?

Can I be an addict too? Please??? hehhe I assume there is a way to unlock the T-bird 133 Mhz fsb modle and the 100 Mhz modle, right?

Grizely, looking at the post times you spend at least 8 hours everyday surfing/responding in this forum.

Thats one hell of a way to run a sucessfull business. unless this is your business.

Grizely1, if you own your own biz, isn't that a question you should pose to your suppliers? after all, you'll get it at a wholesale prices when they do come out. am I right or wrong?

I'm aiming for Canadian suppliers (I'm in Canada), and they usually don't get the new stuff in for a couple months. I'm planning on buying mine in January some time.

(P.S. Thanks for no personal flames like what FUGGER would do)
