Hey everyone, :hello:

I'm new to these forums, but I have browsed around a bit and everyone here seems to be knowledgeable and considerate - unlike a bunch of other places out there...

Anyways, I'm starting to plan a new rig (I'm a big planner - I like to have everything laid out before I get there...)

I know I want the rig to run a i7 920 processor, I want to have a ton of ddr3, and i'm gonna have about 3 1tb hdd's in raid 5.

I also want to be able to run dual displays - one being about a 22-24'' monitor, and the other being a hdtv (not at the same time)

i want a full tower case big enough for comfortably watercooling my RAM, CPU, and GPU's - but I don't necessarily want a window in the side or any LED fans/lights on it aside from the power led etc. as I will probably run it all night and I don't want to have to sleep in sunglasses.

Also, I want to have this be as close to future proof as possible (though i know that's not ever going to happen)

lastly, I'm wondering if anyone here has heard of USB 3.0, and if you have, do you think it's worth waiting for? (not a big deal, as I probably won't be doing anything until late summer/early fall anyways.

any component suggestions would be welcome (graphics, input devices, etc.), or suggestions for things to do differently than i've mentioned - also advice on anything else involved would be great!

Thanks in advance!

-RJ

If you aren't going to buy anything until summer/fall 2009, then don't even bother asking right now. There will be new technology by then and it will be groundbreaking and whatnot :p

As a starting point, check my profile and just mentally switch the q9650 for an i7 920, 2x2gig ddr2 for 3x2gig ddr3 and p5q pro for a x58 board. That'll give you whisper quiet with great performances.

I didn't really limit anything but the processor - and the ability to hook it up to a TV..

what RAM, storage configuration, monitors, video cards, cases, and cooling systems would you guys recommend.

do you think modular PSU's are worth the couple extra bucks you'd spend on them?

I guess I'm looking for pros and cons and general discussion on what you guys would put in a gaming/multimedia rig that'll end up costing between $2000 and $2500.
