Router shows same outside IP-adress for all my PCs

I just installed a Broadband Soho Router from SOHOmate.
I have a machine with Win2000 and one with WinXP running. They retrieve thier IPs automatically from the router but both show the same IP adress "outside" when I check http://www.whatismyip.com

How can I change this so I can play multiplayergames on the net with both computers?

amurayi, your router is the only one with an IP address from your ISP. The router forwards all information from your computer to the internet and then from the internet back to your computer. Since you are behind a router you may need to open a couple of ports to your computer. Your router will be your firewall so you need to tell the router which ports you want open to each machine. One you open the right ports then you should be able to play. The fewer ports open the safer you are from the outside. I'm not a gamer but should be the same as other apps that need ports open.
 
According to the Neverwinternights webpage I have to open ports 5121-5300. In the "Special Application" section of my router I entered these ports. In the box "trigger" I entered "5121" because I didn't know what else to enter.

Is it correct that anything can go in here or does this field have a special value?

Still... one PC gets booted out once both PCs enter the same area in the gameworld.

I was guessing that this might be an IP conflict.

I think you may be right.. You may really have to have to different IP adresses for each PC for that gamer server. If that is the case the only conclusion that I can think of is to call your ISP and have them set up another acount with another modem.. Like I said before the router shares the connection and your ISP would be happy to sell you tow connections..

Well, somehow there MUST be another way. People play other games like CS or whatever using routers. And they all get the same IP?

What if I get a router without a NAT firewall?
Could it work then?
 
I've been going through the forums over there and it seems like a pretty common problem that the haven't been able to fix yet.

Can you point out a post where this problem has been described? Looking myself atm but can't find anything...
 
napt.... translates both ip addresses and port info,( nat just adresses). from networked machines on a lan through the router to wan. maybe the napt features of the router modem will help you??
 
Does your router setup have a demiliterized zone setting?
You should be able to set up one pc, by entering that pc's IP address, to sit outside of the router -unprotected. So now you should have one IP from the router and one from the pc in the DMZ.
The problem may be though that if your ISP authenticates NIC addresses to connect and your outside pc has not been added to your ISP account, you might not be able to connect.
 
If you wanted to work without NAT, you would need a range of static IPs to share on your little net. My ISP assigns 8. 1 is the network IP, one the broadcast, one serves as the WAN IP on the router and one as the LAN IP (I think...sometimes mix up routing a bridging modes). This leaves four (five?) IPs for my use. So I can have a web server, an FTP server, a games server etc...but I would need a hell of a big pipe coming into my house, and I ain't getting the donations. :wink:
