Hello!

I am looking to build a new PC because the market is looking better now. I have the option of a 3060 (for 525$ CAD) [MSI GAMING X Edition] or a 3070 gigabyte gaming OC for 720$. Is the 200$ difference worth the performance difference?

https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B08WPJ5P4R?tag=pcp0f-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 (3060)

Please let me know your thoughts. I run a 1080p monitor with 144 hz refresh rate and play games like world of warcraft, CS go (with my current specs below I dip below 50 fps in wow classic in populated areas and im not even on the highest settings).

Side question: I currently have a ryzen 5 3600 but was thinking of upgrading to either a 5600x or 12600kf - where I live the 5600x is almost 70$ cheaper.

Although I don't mind the performance of my 3600 I want to sell my old PC as a whole to get the highest return for it.

Current set up: r5 3600, 1660, 16gb 3200 mhz ram

Thank you for your time!

Split the price difference and get a faster card?

AMD 6750 for $610? Its faster than the 3070 "apparently"

3060ti for 650? if you insist on nvidia despite having less performance

This is all cdn

For the cpu, just get the 5500... there isn't any worthwhile difference in fps when paired with the cards you are looking at... the only issue...

The 3070 is around 50-60% faster, which to me is usually worth the upgrade. If you can find one for $75-100 less, you could also consider getting a 3060 TI, since for most games you would only lose about 7-15% performance compared to the 307. The 3060 TI can also do ray tracing almost as fast as the 3070 at 1080p. I would personally keep waiting and saving for 3-4 more months, because RTX 40 series will be out by then and you will probably see even lower prices as retailers try to move stock faster.

Since you already have a motherboard for Ryzen 5000, it makes more sense to buy a 5600x if you upgrade the CPU, because then you don't have to swap out everything for a new platform with Intel. You just need to update your bios with your R5 3600 and then swap to the 5600X when that is finished.

Before you upgrade the CPU, upgrade the GPU first and see how your performance is. In my opinion, the 5600X is not a big enough improvement over the 3600 to buy at current prices, but worth considering when the price drops even more. The 5700X would also be worth a look since it's just a slightly slower 5800X that uses less power and would work well with cheaper 120mm tower coolers.

For 1080p even a 3070 is not overkill

If you play AAA games , titles like cyberpunk barely reach 60 fps at ultra settings RT on no dlss. so 3070 would last you longer for sure.

For esport titles , you need every fps out there , so 3070 would be better at high FPS

I strongly recommend 3070 or even better GPU for high FPS, now that prices are dropping weekly .

Now for CPU , I dont know about those games you mentionned , but some esport titles at 1080p like battlefield , warzone , and apex legends DO benefit from 8 cores .. If you can get a nice price for 5800x or 5800x3D it would be a great upgrade. Stick with AMD , moving to intel is a waste of money

5600 or 5800 (or X) make sense, Intel doesn’t since it means you have to replace the whole platform with it too. I’d probably go for a 5800 at this point, non X.

Admirable
With the games you play, you won't need the 3070 for 1080p. My 3070Ti gets easy 144 FPS in games like FFXIV and even HZD when using DLSS. The 3060 will do well in WoW and CS:GO, too.

As for the processor, the 12600k is quite a bit better than the 5600X. A closer match for the latter would be the 12400, even the 12100 isn't far behind. That's why it's cheaper. Personally, if you want to keep the old system as-is and get a new platform in general, between the two I would go with the 12600K. It's simply the better CPU all around.

You did catch the part where TC said they want to sell the system as a whole? Can't keep the board if you want an all new system anyways...

5600x vs 5500 it looks a lot better while making no difference.

The games you are playing... Im pointing at a regular AMD 6600 AND 5500

For the price of the 3060

for wow this should fill your screen @ 144hz

and possibly triple your refresh rate for csgo

there is virtually no difference between the 5500 and the 5600xt except an 80 dollar price tag when paired with a current mid range cpu from nvidia orAMD
