Here's my build : https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FNkVGq
I installed a new RTX 3080 (upgraded from 1080) yesterday in slot 1, when I checked GPU-Z the bus bandwidth says the card is running in PCI-E x8 3.0 instead of x16 (I even run some render test to put some load on the gpu but it doesn't change to x16). However I checked nvidia control panel and it says the bus is x16.

I don't have any NVME, M2 SSD drives, I use 3 SATAs.
While I understand x8 and x16 might not have that big of difference in performance but this still has been bothering me. Does anyone know what the cause is or how to force it run in x16?

UPDATED: I switched one of the SATA drives from Slot 5 to 4 and now it runs in x16! Before I had it as SATA 1-2-3-5. Also, I reseated the gpu (not sure if it actually helped but just wanted to bring it up)

I have no idea sorry. I was wondering how you find the combination of r5 3600 and rtx 3080? I'm interested as I have a 3600 and am considering a graphics card upgrade.

You could check in the bios to see if your PCI-E slot is set to x8

latest bios?
I'm on my 2nd latest bios version (excluding beta), but I read the change log it isn't much. I'll give it a try to see if it fixes it.

So far I don't see any major bottleneck (shouldnt be anything significant really based on the benchmarks I've seen). Also I game on 1440p so that helps, I think 1080p does put a lot on cpu usage and you'd encounter bottleneck more at anything lower than 1440p

I had the same problem on my old case with the MSI H97 Gaming 3 Motherboard and the MSI GTX 980 Gaming 4G , it ran on x8 instead of x16, I had to re-insert the card on the slot a couple of times before it ran on x16. Try doing that and test different holding screw positions. (I did not have the same problem on my new case whatsoever because the card fit better on the I/O, but you should give it a try. Also try cleaning the actual PCIe slot with some compressed air and check for dust both in the slot and the contacts on the card)
