[citation][nom]captaincharisma[/nom]also as a bonus it will red ring twice as fast[/citation]

XBOX's engineering team have solved the RROD problem. They claim the new console's engineering samples had 0% RROD failures once they removed the red leds.

After 3 years how many cores will pc processor have maybe 16 or more. They design these product to last longer. They will be very happy if they can sell their products for as many years as possible. 16 cores maybe over kill now but for how many years???.

LOL yea they still fail but there will just be no warning now because they removed them

Seems like when the 360 was released pcs were pretty close if not less than a year behind. So in nov of next year 16 cores may not be off by too much. I liked the idea that the 16 is really only for the developers at this early stage.

well , i think the consoles will have 6 or more cores each , depending on how they intend to deal with heat , more cores lower clock speed less heat i guess .

PC's have up to eight cores and i think programming for 6 or more cores will benefit PC gaming , i don't think there are any games that uses more than 3 cores , as games are not yet programmed to use more than 3 cores , but i know there are games in development that will use 4 cores , what will the future bring add the feature of kinect .....

I will be very impressed if they do come out with actual 16 core and AMD 7000, now its Sony's turn to dazel us with a rumor of thier next console.

[citation][nom]gamerk316[/nom]Question: What fab on the planet has the yields to make such a CPU profitable for Microsoft?Hence why the roumer is obviously fake.[/citation]

Indeed. I'd even ask why launch Xbox 3 next year when DDR4 hits the stage a year later.
Also this doesn't bode we'll for AMD stealing the show from intel IBM and Nvidia by providing cpus and gpus for all the 8th generation consoles (for those who coun't Wii U). As well as the system being able to run Windows 8 natively.

I think this is a good point- it seems to me that the hardware is fast out-pacing the software. How many games out there truly scale up to take advantage of the horsepower of modern PCs? I do know that FSX will natively scale to 256 cores, but it won't use the power of the GPU! And as anyone who's ever dabbled in it knows, FSX will bring the most powerful system to its knees in no time.

So, if games are only using a few cores at most (and let's face it- the graphics and game play on current gen consoles is nothing short of fantastic), and assuming the Kinect does indeed use a few more cores on its own, what does MS really have in mind with a 16 core beast? Is such power REALLY needed? Didn't MS make a real effort to reduce power consumption in the 360 slim? So why reverse that trend and create a console that has the potential to really cook food on it?

I wonder if there really is 16-cores? this seems like way too many, particularly to balance radeon 7000 series.... If it really is 16 cores though then how many of those are gonna be locked up, how big would the cache be, what is the clock speed, and most importantly how good will the architecture be? Zambezi for example has 8 cores but it still gets tossed around alot by a 2500k with only 4 cores, a lower clock speed, and a smaller cache.

A four core intel i5 out preforms a 8 core amd ? is this fake .... or are they made from different tech ?

Doesn't sony own there own fab ? Sony is to buy Toshiba's fabrication plant in Japan for ¥53 billion (~$650 million)

I made a post before , but a cpu cost is mainly based on the tech , research and development cost , ibm and mircosoft have been working hand in hand since the xbox 360 , o sorry since microsoft operating system .
doesn't nearly every computer in the world run on microsoft operating system ?

Plus its not a cpu but a whole package called a console , microsoft will make at least a 15% profit over the life cycle of the console , and just to answer a question ibm and amd , plus there are also companys in china that are capable to run a process ....

A person has to ask themselves what is profit and how a company structures there revenue ....

When talking about PC's or any PC based system you can never say something has TOO much power or even memory, heck look at Microsoft's official stance on if your having a problem, when in doubt...... upgrade. But I will say, that I am getting kind of tired of having to buy new dramatically overpriced systems every couple to 3 years.

Since consoles don't upgrade in terms of hardware as fast as computers, it would actually make sense to have it as uber power as possible to keep the console relevant for a longer period of time.

16 cores? We don't even have that for PCs yet (thanks, Intel...keep trickling out improvements...milk it for all you can...jerks). I can't see it happening in a console. Get ready for the new Xbox to be well in excess of $1k if this is real. Get ready to work a second job to afford it. You will want to do everything you can to own it and use it and flaunt it. That worked out so well for Sony after all!

I'm liking this new console generation. Nobody learned from Nintendo. They're too busy listening to companies that run things into the ground such as EA. I'm going to be shocked if Apple and Google don't take control of the video game hardware market within the next 5 years.

I dunno...look at the hardware specs of the original Xbox and the 360...they weren't spec'd with the highest components and yet they are still going strong today. I mean, if one were to just judge a console by its graphics and gameplay, where exactly is the 360 supposedly falling short?

YES we do already use 16 cores, take a close look at the MAC Pro desktop, the high-end option is.... will ya look at that a 16 core processor.
