Running a Celeron 1.3GHz @ 2GHz?

i just want to know f somebody out there already have done it. i have a tualatin celeron 1.3 and i overclocked it stably up to 1.73GHz @ 1.575 Vcore. i wanna know if its possible to run celeron 1.3GHz @ 2GHz by using pc150 sdrams like those of kingmax(or maybe a little over 150fsb, will 154fsb work?)...and how high should the vcore be? im planning to purchase pc150 sdrams, so i wanna know if it will work before i go on buying those rams. btw,m using abit st6-raid mobo (fsb can be selcted up to 250MHz, i think...)

Not likely. Most Celerons from 1.2GHz upward won't reach 133MHz FSB at reasonable voltages. You're just lucky it got that far.

ditto. Its not gonna be possible. The best ive seen is 1.6 - 1.7Ghz with liquid cooling according to OC databases.

aww shucks,i was hoping for a resounding 'YES', but then again...hehe thanx anyway guys! btw, i m not using watercooling on my system, just plain ol' air cooling with the help of my trusty cak4-88t! so does that mean im twice lucky? hehe...

good lord, you put the massive copper Cak4-88t on that sucker? That's so overkill, but probably runs very cool even at low rpms

Instead of Rdram, why not just merge 4 Sdram channels...
 
by the way, i also got my celery working @ 1.63GHz on 1.425V, that's below Intel's default vcore specification which is 1.5V =)

ok so it seems that everyone is very pessimistic with regards to the tualatin celeron's overclockability, hmm, i guess il just have to see it for myself then, ha...m gona buy those pc150 rams!!! hehe...ill come back as soon as i get sumthin out of it. (wish me luck?)

haha you should put that money towards a new mobo processor and ddr ram instead

Treat your signature like a toothbrush: Don't let anyone else use it, and get a new one every few months.
 
1700~1750 is the tops for most recent Tualerons. Acording to the intel spec sheet vCore max is 1.75v, but lower is better.

what cooling system dya use for ur tualeron @ 1.74GHz? i got mine stable @ 1.75GHz using pc133 rams...i still havnt got my hands on those pc150 rams...

hmm, for a celeron running @ 1.74, i really do prefer a 1.74 running @ 145 fsb rather than a 1.74 with 134 fsb...

is it comparable to a p4 or athlon xp system running at a lower clock/frequency?

Yeah, I've got some BGA PC150 to try when I get some time.

The higher FSB really helps.

In terms of raw processing power mine comes in around the same level as a P4 2.0 or an XP 1800+. Of course as soon as bandwidth comes into play it drops right back, but hey - not bad for a $50 processor.

For cooling I've got an old heatsink (& fan) off a Tbird-900. I've now lapped both the core and the heatsink and run 33/37C using AS3 as a TIM.

The chip I have in there now is a tB1 made in the 29th week of 2002. I've got a 32nd week tB1 to try as well.

What stepping is yours? What week was it made?

i dont know the stepping, how can i know it? where can i find it? i also didn't took note of the date, all i know is its made in the philippines...sori, m just a newbie when it comes to overclocking...this is actually my first time =)

yeah! same here, when it comes to processing power, it surpasses the athlon xp 1700... talk about price/performance ratio, ehehehe...

it says model B stepping 4 revision tB1...

i havnt yet dismantled my pc again so i still dunno what batch. what's the significance of knowing the batch?

tB1 is the newer stepping (tA1) is the older one). I was guessing it was a tB1 when I saw the speeds you were hitting.

Some weeks overclock better then other weeks. In general it can be said that the later weeks overclock better then the earlier weeks - most likely because intel gets better at making them over time. I'm hoping my week 32 will run faster then my week 29 chip, or if not faster then the same speed at a lower voltage.

Are all the tualerons sold today based on the tb1 stepping? so does that guarantee that a celeron 1300 can be easily overclocked to 1.73GHz?

Yes, 33rd week.

There's no gaurantee you'll get a tB1.

The sSpec is listed on the box (which will tell you the stepping), you can look it up <A HREF="http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sspec/icp.htm" target="_new">here</A>

As a general rule, a Tualeron with an sSpec starting with SL6___ is better then an SL5___. Most SL6___ chips are tB1s, but some are "pre-conversion" tA1s but these usually o/c just as well as tB1s.

If you're looking at boxed processors then an sSpec starting with SL6J__, if you're looking at OEM then as sSpec starting with SL6C__.

And the latest pack date you can find is the best bet.

There are so many factors out of our control that also affect the overclockability of the core that's it's hard to say for sure. The plant where the chips are assembled doesn't seem to make much difference for Tualerons. The generally accepted theory is that cores from the middle of the silicon wafer overclock better then cores from the edge. Of course there is no way of knowing which part of the Si wafer your CPU came from so it's a bit of a moot point.

Although we may see a few "freak" Tualerons that do more then 1750 @ <1.75v and air cooling, I think 1700~1750 will be the limit unless intel releases a new core (tB2 or tC1). Since intel is trying to get everyone to switch to the "P7" (ie: P4 s478) based celerons it is highly unlikely that they would release another P6 (s370) celeron revision.

So again, an SL6__ with the latest date is your best bet in my opinion.

so does that mean that even if i buy a tualeron 1400MHz but still with the tb1 revision, it would most probably only reach speeds between 1700 - 1750 MHz?

if it is so, then i guess this is the end of the line for tualeron overclocking...

Yes.

In my opinion they're still pretty good chips for playing with - the yeilds seem to be getting so good some people are now getting 1700+ out of 1.0A chips on Abit ST-6 boards. That's a 70% overclock on a $40 cpu!

It's a pity intel is killing off the P6 core - It's obvious the Tualatins still had some life left in them. intel was originally going to release a PIII-S-1533 (11.5 multiplier) but canned it because it made the P4 Xeons look so bad.

If you're lucky enough to find an unlocked engineering sample PIII-S you can have some good fun.

It's not really the end of Tualatin overclocking - it's the end of easy Tualatin overclocking. I'm going to submerge mine in dielectric oil cooled to -20C and see how far I can push it. I just need some time at home to finish the project off.

as for my tualeron, i guess i'll stick with it at 1.75GHz. its enough value for money for me...and i dont feel the need YET to go beyond it as well. after all, im really not into overclocking, i just wanted to achieve maximum performance using the conventional air cooling on my tualeron.
