Tbh the only site's reviews I really trust now are Anandtech's. Even then, it's pretty clear than intel are pumping a lot of cash into that site...but meh.

It's not bad, honestly. It's not as good as anandtech, but it definitely has some useful info. Of course, the charts are useless, but the articles are alright.

The last few times it has looked like toms was biased they fixed it in future articles. How can you say that isn't reputable?

Even that one game they keep using that doesn't run well on ATI hardware doesn't mean they're biased, its genuine information for people looking to buy that actually play that game. Sorry but I can't remember the games name - I'm sure someone will point it out for me...

There are articles they come out with that look like ads, and they probably are nothing more than that - but seriously, does anyone really think those 'articles' are lies anyway? They all appear to be true, albeit a little sensational. And even still, those articles are never the long ones, they are one pagers.

Toms does decent to good work, depending. Rarely does any site give great work, and no ones consistently great.
Occasionally Madshrimps, driverheaven,hwcanucks,pcgamer do great work, and Anands is probably the most consistent, in some areas.
Theres other too that shine on occasion, but only [H] has completely shut me down, and Theo? Hes in last place in the rumor category

As for performance gains I can only go by what I see, according to this review the X800 XT PE was consistently 100% at high resolutions (with quality settings enabled) in X2, UT2004, and Call of Duty 4 and 33% quicker in the worst case scenarios.

Like I said, the place where you see the major boosts in generation to generation changes that have those big beyond PR numbers (like 90+%) are the areas where the previous cards ran out of juice (ie high resolution, high AA, large textures, big memory ovehead, etc).

That's why I'm sure if the HD5K series launches with 2GB of memory, you'll see the same situation repeated again with the extreme settings offering you something the other simply couldn't do, just like we saw this generation in the 25x16 w/ AA between the 512MB v 1GB cards.

I would suspect that most of those figures are the average 'best case scenario' but at what could be called 'realistic' settings, and not those that the previous cards just chocked at.

As for Tom's reviews, to me it depends on the author.
Unfortunately my trusted authors tend to do the mid-range and non-launch reviews.

THG seems to just be translating their Euro reviews for launches nowadays, so I don't even bother reading here unless it's someone I trust.

Lars was probably the last launch reviewer I read as a 'firest source' basis.

I would just say that too many of the new reviews are not up to his standard.
The G80, HD2K & HD4K reviews being the rare exceptions in the graphics section, everything else was a dissapointment, and even those last two reviews took a bit of time in coming, however I still appreciate quality over speed, and the G80 review was a little light on details because nV was still playing hide the cards with ATi.

Unfortunately nowadays people want to be the first to publish a review, and those are usually simply re-packaed launch materials from the IHVs and not good in depth reviews, and provide little information on whee the cards excel and have major weakenesses, just what their avg fps is a handful of pre-vetted games.

Well my opinion stands I think the only thing going for THG reviews and articles ATM is the reputable and fantastic past it had with Dr Tom. Now most of their articles sometimes look like they were google translated...no offence, I mean there are here and there some articles that are really good, and I'm happy to see that they are creative with what they compare but meh it just doesn't spark me, I mean I remember the effort they use to put when we had the 9700 pro and 9800 XT. 1 of my fav guides/articles being the 5000 BE OC guide, which seemed to be the last. (although I think that was after the dr was gone but not too sure).

Theres 3 or so good writers for Toms, depending. Sometimes Im surprised with an article from here by one of the new writers, but not often enough.
The older writers do fine work, when allowed to.
