I know the RX 6800 is better in raw performance by a slight amount and is cheaper, but from what I read online it has issues with power spikes which means my 650 watt PSU probably couldn't handle the load. The 7700 XT has some features that I could also use like AV1 encoding. I'm not a content creator, but I do play VR from time to time and think this would be useful to have, also has less power draw than the 6800. I have noticed when I watch benchmarks the 7700 XT will also perform better in some games and the 6800 will perform better in others. Don't know why this would be.

I'm still looking at GPUs so if anyone has suggestions that would be cool. Although I think I'm nearing the end of what I could possibly buy.

What resolution do you play at?

Edit: the only reason I would choose the 6800 over the 7700XT is for the higher amount of vram if you are gaming at 1440p or higher.

Currently have an ultrwide, but it's still 1080. 2560x1080. I was thinking about returning this monitor though, and getting a slightly higher res, or just getting 1080p with higher refresh rate. Not sure yet. I do prefer frames over resolution though.

If you end up with a 1080p monitor I would say 7700XT. If not I would go for 6800.

I have a 1440p monitor and some games (Warzone mostly) can fill up my 4070's 12gb vram even with dlss enabled.

IMO a widescreen resolution like that is best for working on, and in particular with only one screen. For gaming, I would certainly consider something 16:9

Yeah, this is something that I have definitely thought about ever since I got this monitor. The monitor has been absolutely awful since I got it, and I've hated it everyday. I regret this monitor. I regret ever ultrawide I've bought. Idk why I traded in my 240hz 1080p monitor for this. Going back to that is going to feel much better.
