Question RX 7800 XT is good for 1440p Ultra gaming ?

7800 XT is 120$ cheaper than 4070 Super here. So i wanted to know if its a good buy for max settings gaming, as i see many videos saying it lacks quality upscaling and poor performance with UE5 Games like Wukong, Stalker, Hellblade 2 etc..
I see the new Nvidia cards are selling 2 times the msrp now and i assume it follows the same with the 5070 too and the out of stock issue of most brands and the melting issue.
Will upcoming 90 series be at the same price point, so that i can wait?

Any suggestion would be helpful..

The 7800xt is a good card with performance that sits between the 4070 and 4070 super without ray tracing. There are a lot of reviews out there that are worth looking at to get an idea of the games thay interest you. Look at 1440p settings and what fps you want to hit and see if it suits you. If you look at the latest 5080 reviews from hardware unboxed / techspot or Gamers Nexus and they will show you some good detailed information. If the games you like are not covered then cast the net a bit wider to other sites.

No one knows the prices of the new AMD cards yet - by the looks of it they are waiting to see what the performance of the 5070 and 5070ti comes in at - and then release at a price deemed competitive to them at that stage. All performance figures until actual testing are really unknown.

I expect they will be similar in performance to the nvidia cards and have improved Ray tracing and upscaling performance but again this is just an estimate.

If you can wait then I would personally recommend doing so.

Got to love how nvidia and its partners, they create problems and then try to sell you "solutions".

upscaling technologies and frame gen -> create fake frames, image arctifacts and latency for a "smooth" experience, and of course, it wont make your 1% and .1% low better which are the one that mke things smooth.

Anyways, the worst part is that AMD and Intel are just copying nvidia, instead of doing things better.

And lets not forget about game studios/developers who launch "alfa" games as final products, and hopes gamers will turn On DLSS to compensate the lack of optimization. Then they also spend several months trying to make it work as a "final" product, while getting our money up front.

Just get the best card you can get with the best warranty and post services, and enjoy gamign with it. And remember to balance your GPU and your CPU, nothing good comes from pairing a super powerfull GPU with a Core i5 from 4 gens ago. So be sure to pay attention to that. Good GPU, means your CPU should also be good, else you are goig to be wasting potential.

I don't use DLSS, and as long as I can avoid it, I wont use it.

Well, I'm interested in 4070 super, but its the price, 12GB VRAM and price per dollar compare with 7800 XT stopping me to get it. Considering current Nvidia 50 series pricing and stock issues, I'm sure the same will happen with 5070 too, doubled the msrp.. but 9070 is far from launch, and i still dont expecting they gonna launch in March. I believe AMD might increase the prices as well because of their Increased ray tracing performance and nvidia's small performance boost from last GEN.. By looking at 6800 xt and 7800 xt having similar performance, i doubt the new GPU have any large increase in Raster perf boost.
So the confusion real..

Well, I don't want to use any upscaling as well. The reason why im towards AMD for pure performance for the price.. But the Newer games almost all have trouble giving 60fps barely even at 1080p on Max Settings on AMD cards, forget 1440p(Wukong at Very high is the prime Example, it even has cinematic setting don't know which card is capable) And i also don't want to wait devs to release perf patches even after 1 year of the game launch..

I have Ryzen 5 7600..

Well with the R5 7600 either the RX 7800XT or the 4070 Super are good matches.

I know the feeling, I rather lower some setting down than using DLSS or FSR.
For me, in most games the Very Hgh or Ultra settings don't always represent a huge visual impact for the performance cost, so I usually go on High settings on those AAA titles. I also don't care a lot about shadows, usually set them on medium, specially when playing an action game where you are usually tracking enemies, fighting, defending yourself or jumping obtacles.

In any case, even wih the best system you can put togheter (R7 9800X3D + high speed DDR5), the RTX 4070 Super will only get you about (avg) 50 fps in Black Myth Wukon, and thats with settings at Very High + RT and Quality Upscaling.
So neither of those are cards are awesome, if you are looking for that type of game play, you should instead be looking for a RTX 4080/4080 Super or 4080TI I mean 5080.

Games are becoming a bigger and more disapponited pieces of crap, over and over again, crap that barely works on the very high end hardware available, so we are bascially doomed for now.

I agree with some of what you are saying but I use a 4070 super with a 9900k and the performance is good. Would I get some additional performance with a better CPU - yea but only in some games as at 1440p I am often pegged at 100% GPU usage.

DLSS is actually a great technology - frame generation can also be very useful. Certainly in its current state although I agree the first implementations were not great. When actually playing the majority of games I doubt many people will notice any difference to non DLSS when using the quality settings at 1440p and above. 1080p yes as it will be using 720p or lower.

If I don't need to use it then I won't but if I feel I need the extra fps then I will get it on no worries at all. I wouldn't use it for Warzone for example but a single player game or non competitive online game then no issue.

If you want 1440p high refresh with ultra visuals you either buy a 80 or most likely 90 series card or like the majority of us turn on DLSS. I don't use FSR so I cannot comment directly but whilst there have been huge improvements it seems that it is still not quite in the level of DLSS. It's advantage though is that it isn't proprietary.

I do have an issue though with the 50 series seemingly to be more of a refresh though that will rely it seems on MFG to provide any significant games as it has been shown to provide latency penalties.

I also use an RX 7800 XT for 1440 gaming. I replaced a 3070 with it. I find that most of my titles play North of 120-ish frames at highest settings. I don't actually use the FSR or anything with it as I haven't found a need to with the pure grunt it has. It does NOT compete with the 3070 with RT but otherwise kicks the crap out of it in pure rasterization.

Well, I get your point, for me is exactly the other way around, I enjoy the art, design and graphic fidelity of the landscapes and satructures in games and I don't like the artifacts and latency that DLSS + FG can introduce, so If I can avoid it I don't use it.

Oh don't get me wrong if I can do pure raster then I will 100%. I just don't have any issues with using it to get me to a fidelity / fps level that I find acceptable.

Getting a high refresh monitor is the best and worst decision I have had lol. Once you experience higher refresh rates then it is hard to go backwards but to get there sometimes I have no issue with using DLSS to give me that boost. A lot of the implementations are good now but it can vary in some games. Cyberpunk has been great with both DLSS and Frame Gen on and not felt any input lag or noticed any graphical anomalies.

I even forced DLSS 4 on Red Dead 2 as a test and it looked good.

Might just be the games I play though as I am sure there are other times when it doesn't do what you hope or expect

I have tested and try some very good high refresh rate monitors, thats why I have been avoiding getting one for my self, theres no turning back.
