As the HardwareUnboxed review shows it depends highly on the individual game. +24% in Asetto Corsa, +15% in Valorant, but -10% in Cyberpunk and -14% in Warzone.
A 5800x3D/1080 Ti combo outperforms a 12900K/3070 setup by about 30-40% (both and avg fps and 1% lows) in Planetside 2 in those massively CPU-limited situations that matter, that already makes it the much more interesting CPU for me.
And when that game was released, dual and quad cores with 4-8 MB LLC was the norm, so it isn't a case of a game being build to benefit from big caches.
