I just updated my Samsung 840 EVO to firmware EXT0BB6Q and was immediately greeted with problems. I did it using magician, which had me disable Rapid mode to flash, and then it began its process and turned off. I turned my PC back on, and it would no longer flash. I did this a couple times to no avail and then I was greeted with a " Previous boot failed do you want to start without quick boot (which I have had enabled in BIOS). I said sure why not, and viola it worked after doing a start-up repair (actually after trying it 2 times with it enabled). So now I'm in magician, and I have the updated firmware number, the new Data security options, and actually much better IOPS (with marginally worse Read/Write). I go to RAPID Mode and there is no disk for me to select in the drop down and enable RAPID mode. Has it been disabled? Or is it always on? Anyone have similar problems? Figured I'd ask you guys, the best forum on the web.

Solution
Rapid Mode for the latest Samsung Magician version does NOT work for ordinary SATA models of the EVO SSDs if you have Windows 10. It only works on the PRO and mSATA models. Scroll to page 5 of the official Samsung installation guide document to see the requirements for Rapid Mode: http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/ssd/downl...

This is sad because I have a 250 GB 840 EVO and accidentally bought a 500 GB EVO (Regular SATA model) to upgrade. Upon research I found out RAPID MODE will not work on my WIndow 10 machine with those SSD models!!! My motherboard does not have an mSATA port so I am fu**ed. hmm... That is I guess the reason why the market is being flooded now with those old unsupported models at low prices...

What are you talking about?

Magician 4.9.7 rapid mode works with the 840 evo.

I think he was talking about the 840 EVO

Right.
The thread comments implied, but he didn't really specify.
I'd only believe it did NOT work if he actually tried it and it failed.

In the Magician, it does say "840 Pro and above", though. But I'm pretty sure I tried it once with one of my 840 EVOs and it worked.

The link I posted is for the 4.9.7 guide and under Rapid mode requirements, the 840 evo is listed. It says 2.5" and msata

Hmm... I'm still using the 250GB 840 EVO 2.5" and I cannot activate RAPID MODE and the software does not detect an update as well. I've already reinstalled once before. Will try to download the latest version again of the Samsung Magician and reinstall later to see if it will solve this. Will post an update. I have already set to replace my recently purchased 850 EVO with an 850 PRO. I hope that is fully compatible as the installation guide requirements does not indicate the compatibility type (e.g. mSATA, 2.5", etc.) for the PRO. It doesn't help that under page 4 it says "*Some features may not be supported for all models".

Sorry for the confusion.

By the way, I've done my test and the Rapid Mode for the 840 & 850 EVO SSDs was successfully enabled after reinstalling Samsung Magician version 4.9.7 in Windows 10. Thanks for the help!
