Question Samsung T9 Extremely Slow Write Speed

Just purchased a new Samsung 4TB T9 SSD. I have it connected via USB-C into a 20gb port on my new PC. When I first started using it, I was able to transfer a 6GB movie file from my internal SSD onto the T9 in about 10 seconds.

So after that I began to copy over a lot of my personal files. Then randomly, at some point, I looked at the write speed and it was a fraction of what it was.

To test, I tried to copy over the same 6GB movie and these are the speeds I'm getting now:

What could cause the T9 to all of the sudden begin transferring files at USB2.0 speeds out of the blue? I tested the port with other drives and they're fine. The T9 is essentially worthless to me now. All I can think of doing is reformatting but then I'll have to start from scratch.

Anyone experienced anything like this before? Cheers

Oddly, I am in the same situation as you. My T9 arrived yesterday (Amazon) and I am getting speeds under 1000/Mbps (Crystal DiskMark) & 500/Mbps (Samsung Magician); I'll probably return it if there is no other solution. I also tested my T5 for comparison. Help! 🙁

thanks for chiming in. honestly, though, your speeds look OK to me. I assume you're on a 10gb USB port, right? Those are the same speeds my T9 gets when connected to one of those ports.

The issue is I have a brand new PC with a single 20gb port which is supposed to get up to 2000MB/s transfer speeds (look at my T9 read speeds for reference). However as you can see my T9 write speeds are a shocking 50MB/s (yours are 970 which matches your read speeds).

I've gone ahead and ordered Crucial X10 Pro which is supposed to be slightly faster than a T9 so I'll see if the problem is the T9 or the port itself. If it's the T9 then I'm going to return it.

I think you just solved my problem. I was excited and expected 2,000/Mbps from the T9 off the bat, and I didn't stop to think that my USB ports were up to date; embarrassed myself lol. Reading from my MotherBoard Manual (Asus B550-F/https://pasteboard.co/PQqwj7vbRs4Y.jpg), you are correct on the "10gb USB port".

Keep us updated if your new SSD hits 2,100/Mbps or if it was the port itself!

I was looking for the same answer and I'm glad I found this thread.

I ran a benchmark on the T9 with a random USB C I found laying around and plugged it in my computer case. ( Bottom benchmark)

I found the original USB C that came with the T9 and the write speeds got better but no where near the speeds advertised. ( Middle benchmark)

Then I plugged it in directly on the back of the motherboard. Speed is looking so much better. Thank you guys. ( Top benchmark )
