Hello everyone,

I recently bought a Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X (OC) and Its just a beast. But the problem is I have issues with the performance on most games. I was on Catalyst 14.4 drivers but that just made it worse so I switched to the beta 14.6 Drivers. My specs are:

Crucial MX100 SSD
LIAN LI PC-A77F (Switched from Fractal Design R4 silenced)
WD Black HDD
Crucial Ballistic-X (2x4gb of ram)
FX-8350 @ stock (Runs on the hotter side)
Sapphire R9 290 Tri-X (Problems)
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX r2.0

PLEASE NOTE THAT I AM USING A 1400x900 DISPLAY AS OF NOW, SO THESE NUMBERS SHOULD BE WAY HIGHER DUE TO THE FACT MOST BENCHMARKS DONE ONLINE ARE BENCHED AT 1920x1080

Temps are ok. CPU gets hot 55-60+ under load. fan goes crazy.

At ultra:
FPS: 68.7
Score: 1732
Min FPS: 8.7
Max FPS: 146.0

This guy get 100+ FPS, but he does have a better set-up. but its more GPU heavy right?

BF3, 50-20 fps lower both multiplayer and singleplayer (more multiplayer though) then anywhere i can find, and the people testing are running at higher resolutions.

Tomb Raider is actually pretty close to what im getting. Im getting 84fps.

I see most people online saying this card handles anything they throw at it @60fps @1920x1080 or @1920x1200, for me it varies, when i look it open landscape, 60 fps easy. When I turn around at the battlefield/action in any game (farcry 3 blood dragon, tomb raider, bf3...etc) it dips to 40-60 fps depending on the amount of explosions and ai/people.
the questions is: is it normal?

You are running a beast gpu at a pathetic resolution, you have literally set up the worse possible scenario for your cpu.

Your gpu is sitting idle waiting for the cpu to catch up.

An easy way to test this is to overclock the cpu, if you get an increase in fps then yes indeed the cpu is the bottleneck.

lol Your right, so I switched to my 1920x1080 tv, and did some more benchies, still crappy performance.
I did OC my cpu to 4.6 for metro LL, after a while it blue screened on me, so Im running stable at 4.5ghz.
Benchmarks improved by 2 frames.

Render: Direct3D11

Max FPS: 154.2

Normal:
FPS: 87.3

Min FPS: 26.7
Max FPS: 155.1

Well I think my cpu may be the problem, becasue in 3dmark 11 performance setting, I get
Graphics Score:14843
Physics Score:5184
Combined Score:7038
My physics score should be closer to 7000.
my graphics score seems honesty great.

More benchies:

2014-07-05 14:55:09 - MetroLL
Frames: 5156 - Time: 64928ms - Avg: 79.411 - Min: 54 - Max: 108
Frames: 16972 - Time: 228651ms - Avg: 74.227 - Min: 42 - Max: 90
Frames: 1611 - Time: 50497ms - Avg: 31.903 - Min: 17 - Max: 61

As the story continued, specifically after I chose my guns, I saw my frames average around 30-50. Is it a fault on my end? or the game?
I think its my CPU messing up to be honest, and I need to get an AIO liquid cooler, like the corsair h75 or h100i or whatever.
