I have an opportunity to buy this graphics card:

Sapphire Radeon HD 6850 (1024 MB) Graphics Card

I wanted to know if it is worth buying?

Intel i5 2500k @ 3.3ghz turbo frequency @ 3.7ghz
4GB DDR3 @ 1333mhz
1 x 75gb - 2 x 160gb Hard drives
Nvidia Geforce GT 240 @ DDR3 1GB
Windows 7 Professional 32 bit
Win Power 450w PSU (Need to get a new one)
1366x768 @ 720p Resolution - Dual monitor display
Well i can get it off my mate for £75 - He's getting a new one so max budget of £75

It's an OK price, but not an amazing one. Tell him you can get a 7770 (same speed) for £15 more and see if he'll drop it down a bit. I avoid Sapphire cards anyway - I've owned three and none lived more than a few months past their warranty. It's like they're built to fail after warranty expires, but maybe I've just had some bad luck with them - I'm sure some will live beyond their warranty.

Ah ok, i just looked at some videos and they can run majority of games on Ultra @ 1080p/720p. This is worth more than the 7770 but the 7770 is newer so i may get it.
I will see if i can get him to drop the price down, thanks anyways.

I currently use the Sapphire 6850. I bought it in September '12 and it's been OC'ed 24/7 since September '12. It's a great card (sorry for your bad luck sam_p_lay) that hasn't let me down. It's starting to show it's age in games like FC3 & BF3 and will probably be "obsolete" once the new Radeons / GTX's release this year.

If I'm not mistaken, £75 is around $122 USD. That's way overpriced considering brand new they're $130-$150. For that price you could get a new Radeon 7770 and be just as happy.

Edit: Just noticed your resolution, the 7770 should be able to max out any game at your resolution. Not to mention they overclock quite nicely netting you an extra 2-3 FPS. You should definitely get a new PSU too. Protect your invest and don't skimp on the quality.

Doesn't work like that. It should, but in practice, £75 equates to around $100 USD. You can't go purely by exchange rates due to differences in taxation and market factors. I know, it's not fair.

Hmm ok, they go for £128 here in the UK, May just leave the graphics card and save up more money for an Nvidia. I prefer Nvidia to Sapphire.

Read my edit. At your resolution the 6850 will be a beast. The only reason I said to get a new 7770 is because I was misinformed about the exchange rates. I play at 1920x1080 with my 6850 and yes, it shows it's age. By dropping the resolution the card doesn't have to work as hard allowing you to increase settings and AA & AF. See if your friend will lower the price and get it if you can't find a new 7770 within your price range.

In a nutshell, the 7770 & 6850 are pretty much identical in performance (6850 is maybe 1-2 FPS faster). Both will allow you to play games at max settings at your resolution.

Edit: (Sorry, not thinking coherently this morning) If you prefer Nvidia to AMD then look at a GTX 650 Ti (faster than both the 7770 & 6850) and see where it falls in price. Another option for a new card is the GTX 650. It's not as fast as the 7770 but will still be fine for your resolution.

If you can hold out for 2 more months, the new Radeon line should be released.

Good choice - new stuff coming up anyway 🙂 If you decide you can't wait, you can get a 2GB GTX650 Ti (nVidia) from ebuyer.com for £120 at the mo, pretty awesome deal. 2GB 7770 is slightly more expensive (and they're pretty rare anyway for some reason). If you can wait though, that's always good.
