Sapphire Radeon HD7750 for 350w PSU?

Hi,

Looking to upgrade the GPU (currently Nvidia GTS 240) for my Dell Studio XPS 8100 which unfortunately only has a 350w PSU.

I know upgrading the PSU is probably advisable but I've read that the 7750 should be ok for a 350w power supply and not too keen on replacing the PSU.

Could anyone clarify whether a 350w Dell PSU will be able to handle this particular card (I've heard it has low power consumption) or does anyone have any other suggestions?

If the reviews on newegg for this this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814202002 can be trusted, then a 350 watt supply should be sufficient. A lot of people on the reviews are claiming to run it with sub-300w PSUs. From what I've been reading, the 7700s are bar none the lowest power-users in the budget market right now, so I'd say this is a good choice, but I could be mistaken there. What's the model number on your Dell PSU? And how old is it?

You're good. Dell may use undersized PSUs, but they aren't junk (generally Delta or FSP), so you can expect that one to actually be capable of 350W. The HD7750 only uses 56W running flat out (i.e. benchmarking; games will use less), so you'll be fine.

Yes, my sister bought this card for herself, and I am amused with the results, can be used to watch HD movies and also for gaming (skyrim, Diablo III, BF 3) with no problems!
The 350W psu will be fine.

In general any decent 350(even 300 or lower) watt power supply in a non overclocked system will run a 7750 like a dream.

If it makes you feel better I am running a 650ti(and a 5770 before that) on a 300 watt FSP(22 amps @ 12 volts) unit . Those both suck more power then your card.

300 watts(25 Amps) of its total power can be delivered at 12 volts

The 7750 uses a max of 56 watts, so even with a lower-end build you can run it with a 285 watt. No worries here 😀
